Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, announced on April 25, 2007, for Windows, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, will be the fourth installment in the Call of Duty video game series and the first to not be set during World War II. The game's main setting is the Middle East and Eastern Europe[1]. The developers have indicated they may also utilize additional locations, according to Game Informer Magazine.

Call of Duty 4 is not set in an existing conflict, according to Grant Collier, one of Infinity Ward's co-leads,

"We wanted an enemy that is going to give the player a stand up fight. When people hear modern warfare, is that driving in a Humvee until an IED blows your tire off, then people shoot at your Humvee and you shoot back at them and they run away? Strangely enough, that's not Infinity Ward-style combat. So we are creating a robust enemy that is going to give the Western powers a run for their money. They use high technology just like we do."

A trailer displaying these locations, and elements of gameplay was released on April 28, 2007.

Plot
A Russian Nationalist by the name of Zakhaev is set on returning his homeland to the Soviet times. Zakhaev knows the United States would never allow this to happen, thus he funds a coup in the middle-east, organized by his ally Al-Assad, to draw attention away from Russia. The two men and their seconds in command gain the nickname "The Four Horsemen". However British and Russian governments have been monitoring Zakhaev's activities and discover his real intentions. The story is told from a perspective of a British SAS operative, a Russian Spetsnaz stationed in Russia and an American Force Recon Marine and Navy SEALs in the middle-east.

Realism Mode and Multiplayer
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has been announced to have a new mode called "Realism Mode". In Realism mode, a single shot in the chest, heart, etc. can kill while getting shot in the leg will cause you to fall down. For Multiplayer, it has been confirmed that Call of Duty 4 will include a Class system similar to the one used in Call of Duty 3. In addition to the basic classes like Heavy Gunner and Assault Class, this game will include Spec Op, Demo and a user customizable class creator. But to create a unique class, the player has to unlock the ability through a certain hours of gameplay. Only two of the classes are available to a first time player. The rest are unlocked as he/she gains more experience online and gains higher rank. It has been confirmed that players will be able to buy maps for Multiplayer mode, that contain special vehicles such as UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and the Little Bird helicopter. Also a feature included in the Multiplayer Mode is called the "Last Stand". When the player is taking too much damage, the character will fall down but automatically draw his pistol. The player can either kill himself with the suicide button (Coward's Way Out) or deliver a few shots to finish the enemy. Suicide denies a full kill to the enemy player. The second Multiplayer Mode is called "Deep Impact" it allows you to shoot through certain objects in the game that would normally be used as cover (i.e. Walls, floors, ceilings. It also depends on the type of weapon you carry, the distance you are shooting and the thickness of the object you're shooting through.

Video: What if Call of Duty was a Pokemon game?
(via Xbox 360 Fanboy) - The problem with Pokemon is that it's pretty embarrassing to tell people you play it, especially if you're over the age of 13 -- just ask Griffin. They're great games, don't get us wrong. It's just that we're adults, with actual utility bills and Netflix memberships, and alive and breathing significant others.

Call of Duty: Black Ops on PC is a proper PC game. Modding and dev console are in Call of Duty: Black Ops
(via Game Radar) - Looks like the fallout from the controversial PC version of Modern Warfare 2 has shaken up a few attitudes over at Activision. As you might remember, PC gamers were (rightly) up in arms when it was revealed that the keyboard and mouse version of the last Call of Duty would lack dedicated servers, modification support, and all of the other brilliant little garnishes that make PC gaming culture what it is.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Could Be Hack Proof?
(via Xboxic) - Treyarch Community Manager, Josh Olin, has informed DigitalSpy that although large scale patches are in the hands of Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, they can now hotfix smaller aspects on the fly. Preview: Call of Duty: Black Ops single player
(via Xbox 360 Fanboy) - It's not easy to do justice to war. Make a game too realistic, and you threaten to make it so brutal that it's simply not fun to play. Make it too bombastic, and you risk making a mockery of the soldiers that risk their lives every day in the real world. In this writer's opinion, Modern Warfare 2 is guilty of the latter.
