The game is modeled after the Apocalypse, when the demons and angels are battling for earth. War, one of the Four Horsemen, is stripped of his powers when the demon Abaddon defeats him in battle. Throughout the game, you struggle to regain your powers and exact your revenge on the one who took your status from you and at the same time you meet up with the other three Horsemen.
Gameplay
There are many reasons why people compare Wrath of War to God of War and The Legend of Zelda. The city that the first scene of the apocalyptic battle occurred is now the battle ground of your recovery. The city is a weapon waiting for you to fire it. If you were to fight a bat queen in a church tower, all you have to do is aim for the bell and the queen will fall down in pain and you are free to kill her. The game is basically a giant puzzle that is left open for you to solve. The city of Ruin features many dungeons and caverns to help you hide from oncoming enemies when you are low on health. But dungeons aren't always used for shelter. Through the game you'll be forced to enter a dark dungeon to fight off a boss. Also throughout the game, when a monster grabs you, you will be forced to smash buttons or be crushed by the power of the monster. But also when the designers talk of a dungeon it's not literally a dark cavern. It's usually a place where the earth has been demoniacally destroyed or wrecked. There spikes will rise from the ground and monsters will hide in their depths. But also how could War be a horseman without at some time him being able to ride on a horse. This will change the game play completely. The designers didn't want the horse to be strictly realistic and for getting to different players. The horse's name is Ruin, Ruin is bound to earthly bonds and so War can summon him at will. Ruin can fly over and enemy, you can dismiss him (and he'll just disappear) and you perform an aerial combo, and then summon Ruin once more to finish the job.
Weapons of War
War starts out with his huge sword for means of attacking but will later have a total of four permanent weapons to choose from along with using environmental weapons. Example would be if War comes upon a downed military copter, he could tear off the machine guns and wield it like a chaingun, another would be picking up a nearby school bus and start swinging. War won't be picking up or using anything small like pistols or shotguns but more along the lines of rocket launchers, chainguns, or larger. He will also obtain weapons from the other three Horsemen, such as Death's scythe.
Gear
War will gain different gear items from completing the "dungeon" like areas in the game. These items will allow War to access different parts of the world. Once such item is a grapple hook like tool to grapple to specific areas, etc. Another is an item that allows him to bend reality and link two points together by portals. These items will be necessary to complete dungeons and boss fights. It is said that once you unlock a new item most the puzzles remaining in that dungeon will revolve around using that new tool. Boss fights too will use the new tools to bring them vulnerable for your normal weapons. Another sort of tool announced was War's horse Ruin.
Latest Darksiders trailer is artsy, open, adventurous (via Joystiq) - Filed under: Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, Action "There's my steed!"
Looks like we'll get to control a god of war War himself and do it with style in Vigil Games' open-world action game, Darksiders: Wrath of War. Considering that Joe "Mad!" Madureira of X-Men and Battle Chasers fame is the developer's creative director, the fact that it's looking smoking hot doesn't surprise us. Discuss (0) | Login to recommend | 7 months ago
