Overview
The game will star Batman fighting crime in Gotham City. An early build for the PS2 console was shown at certain conferences (such as at Game On in London) by designer Jonathan Smith, with a small playable area sporting the exact same HUD as Lego Star Wars II. Characters on screen each have individual animations and both Batman and Robin have their animated TV show dressing style. There will be 36 levels in the game (18 heroes and 18 villains). After you play through the level from the heroes' perspective you will unlock the level from the villains' perspective. A similar grappling system to the one used in Lego Star Wars II will be used. The style of the game will focus more on Batman: The Animated Series and the comics rather than the new movies.

Batman, Robin, the Joker, the Penguin, and Harley Quinn will be some of the playable characters. It is rumored that Bane will also be playable due to the fact that he is already a part of the Lego Batman franchise. Man-Bat and Nighthawk are also expected to make it into the game as playable characters. Two levels involving Batman and Robin chasing Catwoman with a diamond, and a level where Joker and Harley Quinn are in a theme park level, ending with a boss battle against Commissioner James Gordon, have already been tested. Also, in the trailer, there is footage of a player swapping characters, and a version of Robin with scuba gear and another with magno-shoes on is shown as a playable character. New moves will be added like the upcoming Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures such as swimming under water to collect studs seen in a gameplay trailer. So far, two short gameplay trailers have been released, one featuring Catwoman and the Riddler. The other one features the Scarecrow and the newly introduced Two-Face. Developer Jonathan Smith stated that the company will be developing more Lego games in the foreseeable future.

Story
While much of the story has not been revealed yet, the most recent trailer shows a massive breakout of Arkham Asylum. Villains such as the Joker, Harley Quinn, Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow, and many more have escaped and are wrecking havoc on the streets of Gotham City. Game-play videos of the Joker and Harley levels also show them abducting Commissioner Gordon after his failed attempt to arrest the sadistic duo. The story will be told through the hero’s and villain’s perspectives eventually completing the whole story from both point of views.

Batman: Arkham Asylum
(via CVG) - A serious game on a serious console... On paper, this can't fail. Arguably, the best comic book superhero ever. Certainly the best villains. Definitely the most compelling universe. A blueprint that marries Chronicles of Riddick, Manhunt and Splinter Cell. And all weaved together by the team behind Urban Chaos, an Xbox riot sim no one bought, but which was really, genuinely good.

Reviews: LEGO Batman: The Videogame
(via OXM) - Criminals, prepare to brick thyselves. The Bat's back. The LEGO-random-pop-culture-artifact series has long since crossed the point where it moved from surprise hit to accepted part of the Christmas charts landscape. A family game in the truest sense - as in, designed for parents to play alongside children, as much as kids playing with kids - it says much of LEGO Batman's charm that the joke's not completely tired yet.

Lego Batman
(via CVG) - Gotham's worst will brick themselves. Who is Batman to you? The violent lawman of the modern comics? The wink-wink star of the 60's TV show? Tim Burton's gothic icon, perhaps? Maybe he's just that dude what punched his mum. The point is this: Travellers' Tales have never had a subject so open to Lego interpretation, and with it, playful experimentation.

Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts Is Starting To Sound More Like LEGO Grand Theft Auto Tokyo Game Show 2008
(via Kotaku) - Carjacking, fleeing from the cops, and an open world in which you rub elbows with corrupt weasels and lowlife thugs doesn't sound like something you'd expect from a Banjo Kazooie game, but Rare may be giving impressionable boys and girls their first taste of Grand Theft Auto-style gameplay.
