I think it will be at least two years before the release of the next microsoft console. They havent even got this one right yet let alone a new one.

I think it will be longer than 2 years. Much longer. I am going to go with more like 5-7 years.

i think this generation of console is going to be one of the longer running generations. I give you a couple theories to support my idea.

Mass Effect is part of a trilogy, all set to be produced on the 360. (thats why it was given extra money, not for multi-platform, but for mutiple games)

The 360 is very modular, with the ability to simply add bigger hard drives, or external hd-dvd players, the 360 base unit has a very long shelf life (aside from RRoD problems)

It would be fairly easy for MS to produce an external blu-ray player, and NOT loose a foothold in the market

The longer a console is produced the more revenue it brings. The console will have less and less overhead and more and more profit the longer it is out there, and as long as publishers are making great must have games for it, it can still be sold.
