I know its Nintendo, but this is big.
Chrono Trigger is an old ass game 13 years ago on the SNES, It was sold 80$ 13 years ago. It is considered by many to be the best RPG of all time. The DS build shown was said to be the most solid 16 bit port square has done thus far.
The DS-specific features are similar to the additions in the upcoming remake of Final Fantasy IV: unobtrusive and optional. The bottom screen serves as a detailed area map for towns and dungeons, with dungeons starting out blank and filling out as you explore. Crono (yes, he's still officially Crono, not Chrono) and company can be guided about with the stylus or with the D-pad. The map is flanked by a number of icons that allow instant access to various functions, including items, a bestiary and the party-swapping menu. The touch screen also serves as a command palette during battle, with smartly-arranged buttons allowing quick access to attacks and techs. Enemy buttons are laid out according to that enemy's location on the battlefield, which works surprisingly well. Observant players will notice a pair of status bars beneath each party member -- the top shows the character's health, while the bottom shows his or her respective Active-Time Battle progress bar. Overall, the additions are nice touches that make one of the breeziest combat systems ever seen in an RPG move even more briskly.

Posted: 5 months ago I am hyped for this, however I am always dissapointed with these GB, and DS ports of square games. If they are going to update graphics and story, they should add a "find where to go button", I mean if play any of those games and stop for a week or two you have no clue where to go. |
