The game Ghostheads have been waiting 25 years for!     On: 2010-08-22

And Id add, the third sequel that weve been waiting for as well!)

In a nutshell, this game has the "feel" of being a Ghostbuster as perfect as I imagine it could be, short of being able to own a real unlicensed nuclear accelerator and go hunting for ghosts yourself!

The controls are good, just takes some practice to become a pro ghost-wrangler.

The graphics and voice acting are excellent! As most anyone should know by now, the entire cast returns (sans Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver), and it shows that Dan and Harold had a hand in the script. Everything from the humor, to the techno-speak feels like authentic "Ghostbusters."

If you couldnt tell it, this is coming from a long-time fan of Ghostbusters. For someone totally unfamiliar with the franchise, Id think there could still be an enjoyable experience to be had - "shooters" are a dime a dozen, but a game with the mechanics of a paranormal pest-trapping agency is something pretty unique.
AWESOME     On: 2010-08-02

This game was awesome. If you are a fan of the Ghostbusters movies this is a must have. Story written by the orignal writers the models look just like the actors who also lend their voices. Graphics were great looked just like the movies effects, even switching the gadgets on you backpack was highly detailed and had different animations. Game play was very fun and challenging at times, but always worth the time. Everything about the game was great, I would say a must buy for the PS3. I was not able to try multiplayer, I dont have the system connected to the internet.

The only complaint I have was that it seemed too short for me; I didnt want it to end.
If you love the movies try the game.     On: 2010-07-28

I am a ghostbuster fan so the game was made. I tryed it and was impressed. They got all the actors together to do the voices in the game. the game was lots of fun. I finished the game wishing there was more of it, so i guess they did a great job. Only thing I wish they would have done is let you drive Ecto-1.
Awesome game that I put off buying for WAY too long     On: 2010-07-28

I really wanted to buy this game when it was released, but didnt because of lukewarm reviews and a somewhat boring demo on PSN. I finally made the leap after the price drop, and WOW! What a game. The story is great. The dialogue is priceless. The gameplay is downright awesome. I really enjoyed the single player campaign, but the true fun is in the multiplayer coop challenges. I didnt even know this game had a multiplayer option when I bought it. Needless to say, I regret not buying this game when it came out. Not a mistake I plan to make again, if they decide to release a sequel.
Great Game, Horrible Glitches (NO SAVE???)     On: 2010-07-17

This is a very fun game. The game itself is great. Busting ghost heads is the funnest thing you could do in your spare time. The environments look nice and the gameplay is surprisingly fluid. If you are a fan of the Ghostbusters, this game is a must. Written by the writers of the original movies, Harold Ramis and Dan Akroyd (Egon and Ray themselves), the story is pretty awesome. Many familiar faces show up and you can tell it was very well written, even the ingame comments from the Ghostbusters seem very natural. Much care went into these characters and it really shows.

With that said, the game suffers from a huge problem. Now, there are a few things (poor lip-syncing) that are unfavorable, but I am talking about a serious problem:

YOU CANNOT SAVE- I dont know how common this is, but I found out very early on that there is a glitch in the game that doesnt allow the game to read your save file. I had to play the game all the way through without stopping just to experience the whole game (game takes about 7-8 hrs; Took me about 18, 23 hrs with breaks in between, on Pro and to find all artifacts). Ive gone on many posts and it seems that this has happened to many people (though I dont know if it happens to everyone). There are many different posts explaining different ways to fix this problem, though the ones Ive tried havent worked for me. It may be that depending on your hardware and firmware, it may take different solutions to fix this. To date, I dont think Atari has released a patch to correct this issue, and that upsets me very much.

I loved this game. It was, as someone wrote, "a love letter to Ghostbusters fans." I wouldve given this game a 4 or 5 had it been for the gameplay and experience of the story alone. But this HUGE flaw is very frustrating. Imagine beating the game on Hard, gaining all artifacts and scans and upgrades, then turning your system on and finding that you just have to start all over.

If you are a Ghostbusters fan, this is definitely a MUST. But you should be aware that this bug exists.
Review     On: 2010-07-12

This game didnt hold my interest. I tried playing for a few days but I got bored very quickly. I thought I would really enjoy this game but unfortunatly I didnt. I like to finish a game once I start but this game was so boring to me I had to stop. The only pro was the graphics. I would not recommend this unless you are under 10.
Everything it should be!!     On: 2010-06-24

All of the original voices, a chance to be a Ghostbuster.... what else do you need? The game is fun, nostalgic, and even a little creepy at times. My only complaint would be that its too short. But you can play it at three different skill levels and there are the XBOX Live options to keep the fun going. I dont how enjoyable this game would be for someone who isnt a Ghostbusters fan because Ive loved the series since I was little and I definitely think it played a part in my positive experience. Im pretty sure any fan would get a kick out of this game and its priced to sell!!! In short: Pack yourself up, get a grip, come equipped, grab your proton pack off your back and have fun!!
Not impressed     On: 2010-06-02

Meh. If youd rather watch your videogames than play them, perhaps this game is for you. I suppose between the rambling cut scenes and "follow this guy here" segments there were some occasional fun areas, but for the most part, this game just really didnt hold my interest for long. Its just not that fun.
No Sigourney Weaver...very disapointing     On: 2010-05-05

The game has beautiful graphcis, and is fun, but controls feel a bit stiff, almost like Resident evil 5 and 4 controls(even tho those were great games). The feel is very limited. And gameplay can get boring. The biggest disapointment to me was that sigourney weaver was not in here, neither was Rick Moranis, and Bill Murrys character was a big womanizer and very sadly is not with Sigourney weavers character. For this reason, the story was a big downfall to me and would not make a good sequal story-line. Could have been a better story, if it had been, Id give this game a 4/5 star rating.
cool kid game     On: 2010-02-17

If you have a kid and want to keep them occupied this game would be great. No cursing or really bad violence.
I'll Play Through it Over and Over     On: 2010-01-31

"Ghostbusters: The Video Game" was great, I thought. This game is THE reason I wanted an Xbox 360 in the first place. The game has three difficulty levels - Beginner, Experienced and Professional. The default setting is "Experienced". Thats where I left it for my first time through the game. Parts of it were challenging. Other parts I walked right through. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and plan to see what the other two difficulty levels are like.

The only change Id really liked to have seen would be to make the game longer. I simply wasnt ready for it to end. Mr. Harold Ramis and Mr. Dan Aykroyd did a fantastic job on the script for this game - it looks and feels like a Ghostbusters film in nearly every way. And both of those gentlemen, along with Mr. Bill Murray, Mr. Ernie Hudson, Ms. Annie Potts and Mr. William Atherton all did fantastic jobs, in my opinion, of reprising their film roles for the game in some top-notch voice talent. Overall, Id highly recommend "Ghostbusters: The Video Game" to any fan of the films or to anyone who wants a good game to play or to anyone who just wants a laugh.
Not what I want, but still good     On: 2010-01-30

This isnt the Ghostbusters game Ive always wanted to play. Ive always wanted the opportunity to play my own character who opens his own franchise in some city other than New York. Dr. Venkman did, after all, dream of profits from the franchise rights just after Dr. Stanz mortgaged his grandmothers house to get the money to start up; Id like to be among those paying that franchise fee. I want to have to organize a route, balance profits against losses--in short, play what amounts to a business sim / RPG / go blast some ghosts. Some calls would be routine, replayable missions that are designed to be fun and bring in some money. Some would be one-time deals that tell small, episodic stories. And some, coming on the schedule according to a timetable, would lead to a final confrontation against some ancient demigod, resurrecting wizard, horror from another dimension, or what have you (the big bad of the game). The goal would be to make enough money to have the right equipment to take on said creature from beyond. You take your time, or pay too much out for collateral damage instead of equipment, or what have you, Chicago (or whatever city the devs chose for the franchise expansion) will be ground zero for the end of the world. No pressure. ;)

That said, the actual game is quite fun. In the initial run, I was struck by how the art style seemed to be somewhat inspired by Left 4 Dead... appropriate for the genre. The controls are fun, blasting and trapping ghosts is fun, and the four equipment sets you pick up as you go through the game make for interesting gameplay. There was only one sequence that at "casual" (the lowest difficulty level and the one I played at) that frustrated me, but it was awesome when I finally got past it (the cupid statues at the gate, for those in the know). I really dont have any complaints, and if they were to create my dream game, the basic action established in this game would be perfect for the ghostbusting action portion of the game.

The guys were in good form, as well. With the exception of Rick Moranis as Louis Tully, the original cast is actually played by the original cast... which is really, really cool. The beginning was a little rocky in my opinion, but both the story and the banter between the ghostbusters are excellent pretty wall all the way through.

If you like Ghostbusters and are not pathologically averse to shooters (and this is more than just a shooter, IMO), send a message: buy this game. Maybe theyll make another. Maybe theyll even give us our own franchise.
Puts all other movie games to shame!!!     On: 2010-01-22

If you are a Ghostbusters fan, this movie truly has it all!! I grew up on the franchise and I love all the references to the original characters and movie moments that the game puts together. From the achievement names to the casual references to past GB events in dialogue to the Vigo painting which resides in the firehouse, it was as close to the 3rd movie as you can get (until reports leaked early Jan. 2010 that a 3rd movie was indeed in the works). The old cast and writers were really able to pick up where they left off 18 years before this game was made.

From a strictly gaming perspective, Ghostbusters does have some strong pros and cons. If youve played a shooter game before, you should have no trouble picking up the controls: R trigger is primary fire, L trigger is secondary fire, D-pad switches weapons, face buttons are accessories. You really get a feel for what its like to be a "real" Ghostbuster, from scanning ghosts to find out their weaknesses, using the appropriate weapons to capitalize, and wrangling them into the traps, the whole process is incredibly fun and gives a sense of satisfaction for all the work done. Boss battles are expecially challenging and force you to use a combination of your weapons, each with its own strengths. Weapon/Equipment upgrades also give you incentive to scan enemies as well as look for secret hidden artifacts. Both actions really help to wrap you up in the Ghostbusters world.

However, on that same note, part of what makes boss battles (and the whole game in general) very challenging is the extremely poor AI of your teammates. Very rarely do they capture or kill ghosts without your help. Also, when youre down and its their duty to revive you, they often spend an extra second standing over your body which draws more fire and kills them too, costing you the mission. Furthermore, I wish that the game added custom design or name recognition for your character "The Rookie." These are 2 things which I dont think are too unreasonable given whats been done with other games of this console generation. After a while, you get sick of being referred to by generic names like "rook," "cadet," or "new guy."

My last wish is that you competed with all 4 Ghostbusters (with your character being the 5th) on a more consistent basis throughout the game, so you really feel as if youre part of the team. All too often, one Ghostbuster finds a reason to stay behind (watch the car, its their day off, etc.) or go in a separate direction, meaning youre often with only 1-2 other Ghostbusters.

Once youve beaten the game, I feel that the XBox Live multiplayer complements the single player very well. There are a variety of maps and game modes, and lots of incentives to level up such as spiffy new uniforms and unlocked weapons. If you scanned the enemies and learned their strengths during the main campaign, youll be able to defeat ghosts more efficiently in multiplayer, where your scanner and spirit guide are unavailable. I wish more people played, but thats no fault of the game designers.

I only wish certain bosses weren't so hard and to drive the Ecto-1     On: 2010-01-21

This has been awesome. As a fan of the movies and even the old cartoons, I pretty much spazzed out when I heard about this game. It hasnt disappointed. The voice acting is great, the story decent.
Being the new Ghostbuster is like a dream come true. The game is a fun bit of nostalgia. I wish every licensed game was handled this well. That being said, its not perfect. There could be a bit more variety to the action. I would say this is like a third and fourth movie with a bunch of interactivity. This isnt one of those games that just plays cutscenes forever, but if you play it with the movie mindset youll enjoy it more. As a game, there needs to be more. As a movie, you get way more time than a typical film would allow to be a part of this world. I havent finished the game yet - stuck in the sewers... argh! but it would be great to drive the Ecto-1 some before the adventure ends. I feel like this game could be a reboot for the franchise and there could be a sequel made for this game. It would have to be a better game though, and would have to appeal to gamers who will want to play it and then go back and watch the movies. Episodes IV-VI were the best Star Wars films, so who knows?
Everyone would love this game     On: 2010-01-19

I am a fan of the movies and I think this is by far the best movie to game ever made. It really brings you into the GB (Ghost Buster) world. I have only played it a short time and each day I think about how much fun I have had with this game. The controls may take a while to get use to and there is a lot goingon on screen at one time. The graphics are great and the voice over is perfect. I am no where near the end of the game so as far as replay goes I am uncertain at this time.

When you go after a ghost and catch one it makes you really feel like yo worked to earn that catch.
Saving the Day     On: 2010-01-14

Written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, this is pretty much an official sequel to the first two films, and is a lot better than the movie Ghostbusters 2. A lot.

The original actors return to do their own voice and motion-capture performances. Bill Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Ernie Hudson as the intrepid foursome, Annie Potts as their nerdily hot secretary Janine, William Atherton as bureaucratic douche-bag Walter Peck, with Alyssa Milano and Brian Doyle Murray joining the cast as the new love interest and the mayor.

The player takes the role of the new guy, a young rookie stuck with the job of trying out the newest, untested equipment. That equipment of course includes the proton beam, the ghost trap, and the PKE meter from the films, but you get three new weapon types to play around with (the slime gun proving the most fun).

The game captures every element of the Ghostbusters franchise perfectly. The writing is sharp and clever. The performances are lively and dead on. The gameplay is tight and exactly what it should be. The locations are complex and colorful and highly destructible. And the ghosts are varied, entertaining, and multifarious.

The storyline is far better than Id expected. It starts in familiar territory, with new encounters with old friends like Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and to be honest I had my doubts about that. But they fully rationalize the inclusion of the old stuff, making it an organic part of the present storyline, allowing you to enjoy the nostalgic encounters early in the game, then moving into lots of new, original material. Im glad they did this. It was loads of fun blasting the Hotel Sedgwick to pieces, and the battle with Mr. Stay Puft proves to be even more epic and fun than it was in the first film.

Apparently the actors all had so much fun making the game, they finally agreed to do another film, and Ghostbusters 3 is set to start filming next summer.

I played this on the Xbox 360. Its available on PC and Playstation 3, but if youre deciding between the Xbox and the PS3 version, definitely go Xbox. The PS3 versions resolution is 56% of the Xbox version (I base this on several online sources, not on my own observations, and I have both machines, so Im not speaking out of any particular brand loyalty). There is a Wii version as well, but its effectively a different game, with more cartoony graphics.

An OK game. Can be boring     On: 2009-12-09

For anyone who is a hardcore fan of the Ghostbusters, you dont need a review; just buy the game. Youll enjoy it regardless of any faults it may or may not have.

For everyone else, approach this one with some caution.

Ive found the game play can be tedious and boring at times. Load time is kind of slow when you have to reload a checkpoint. And you will be reloading checkpoints given how difficult it can be to track some of the ghosts.

I cant tell you how many times Ive had my proton beam trained on a ghost, only to have one of the other members of the team yell at ME for crossing streams, when in reality they began firing on the enemy AFTER I did.

There is no co-op option for the campaign. The only co-op options are to play in the multiplayer part of the game and its not a complete campaign. You play one off missions with no story to them per say.

Graphics are good. Some of the lip synching, both in game and in cut scenes, is off.

Bringing back the original actors for voice overs? Great idea in theory. In practice, most of these people are real actors and seem to struggle to find an emotional range when simply reading lines. And yes, there are times when it feels like all they are doing is reading off of the script with little to no emotion involved. They do an OK job, but not what I had been hoping for.

I find constantly switching beams for the proton pack, while novel in the beginning, also very tedious. Having to scan ghosts for the Tobin Spirit Guide? Again, a nice touch to include the guide, but the actual implementation is obnoxious. You will find that instead of playing the game in real color, you will instead spend most of your time using the PKE meter where everything appears more like one of those silly ghost shows where they have night vision setup. I dont want to play a game with a sort of creepy atmosphere not immersed in said atmosphere. What the developers strove for, a convincing and scary environment in certain situations, is rendered meaningless when youre playing the game with night vision.

The game has its moments. It is definitely the best Ghostbusters video game ever released. Of course, when you look back on the video game history of the series, that isnt really all that great of an accomplishment.

If you can get the game for $20 it is worth the money. If youre a fan of the franchise, just buy it no matter the price. Those looking for a lot of fun in a game for the current $40 MSRP would be better served looking elsewhere.
Are We in the Containment Unit?     On: 2009-12-08

I remember playing the original Ghostbusters Activision game for the Atari 800 back in 1984. Repetitive, clunky, and featuring an out-of-place driving mini-game, my brother and I actually enjoyed playing it. After that game, it was all downhill for the Ghostbusters gaming franchise. Until now.

This new Ghostbusters game is an instructive way of immersing a player in the movie experience. The majority of the voice actors are back. The plot is directly tied to the first two movies. You get to play a rookie Ghostbuster and the proton packs are accurately replicated down to the slightest detail - the music is straight from the film, the sound effects are exactly the same, and the special effects of the twisty, winding proton streams are perfectly captured. Ghostbusters even features a nod to modern gaming tropes, like "venting" weapons so that they cool down before firing. Thats the good news.

Setting aside the Ghostbusters content, the game comes up a short. Playing Ghostbusters is like playing on a movie soundstage: you can only go where the set is built. Although theres the illusion of freedom from the first- or third-person perspective, theres really not much to actually do. The characters have a shiny, plastic look and the lip-syncing is awful. There are half-hearted attempts to round out the content: collectible artifacts that echo creepy noises, equipment upgrades, and the bizarre ability to drink from water fountains. But none of this really affects game play - the artifacts are set dressing, you will be able to afford every equipment upgrade by the end of the game, and drinking from water fountains nets you an achievement.

Least forgivable is the lack of a co-op mode for the campaign. I was fooled by the advertising indicating that Ghostbusters has a "campaign mode." To be clear, campaign mode is NOT the same as co-op mode. One would think that a game that features all four Ghostbusters in play would be a natural fit for a co-op mode allowing four players. One would be wrong.

Looking back on the concept art, a lot seems to have been cut from Ghostbusters, and thats a shame. The game is short, with a very linear plot and not much in the way of side missions. Walking around with a PKE meter in first-person mode washes everything in a green lens, which is great for finding artifacts but not so great for enjoying the games beautiful backdrops and foes. In fact, sometimes theres so much going on that the games rendering cant really be appreciated. Ghostbusters feels cramped and busy.

The experience of running around the Ghostbusters firehouse encapsulates much of whats wrong and right with the game: you can talk to the portrait of Vigo the Carpathian, stand in front of a game of Q-bert (but not actually, ya know, play it in-game), slide down the fire pole, listen to Janine Melnitz answer the phone, and be stalked by disembodied disco jeans you picked up earlier in the game...but once youve walked around a few times theres not much else to do.

But my two-year-old now chants "ghost-BUSTAHS!" whenever someone asks him who hes gonna call...so Terminal Reality must be doing something right.

AMAZING GAME!!!!     On: 2009-11-17

I have been a fan of ghostbusters for years! When I got this game, i was afraid i was going to be dissapointed. I thought the humor would not be present, luckily, however, I was wrong. The game is not only full of action, but it was packed with hilarious dialog! The graphics are insane, and look incredibly real and detailed. The characters are amazingly realistic, the facial features, voices(especially peters, considering bill murray didnt play his voice in the game)and movements. I cant think of a single thing wrong with this game! LITERALLY THE BEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS GAME!!
Highly enjoyable despite some glitches...     On: 2009-11-16

Not going to write a lot that cant already be found online at places like [...] already.

Pros:

- Single player is just rockingly awesome.
- All characters from the series return to voice their characters.
- Sounds in a surround sound system will just give a player goosebumps no questions asked.
- Anyone who is remotely a ghostbusters fan must own this game for how well it meshes and carries the storyline.
- Graphics using the Unreal engine are well done, there are times that they skimped and things can look lame, but over all from the total environmental destruction to the character and ghost details it just looks fantastic.
- Multiplayer is online only, so no split screen (more on this in Cons).. The game modes are A LOT OF FUN! And quite frankly multiplayer matches can be started and palyed through with no huge time commitments. Rather nice I must say.

Cons:

- Characters during conversations will speak into a direction at times not remotely facing you. So characters could be having a conversation yet they are no where near one another OR remotely facing one another when you know they should be.
- Glitches and more glitches.. While a patch has been issued, it did not remotely fix a lot of the glitches the game has. Ghosts get stuck high in the air and a player cannot proceed until they are beaten, yet they cannot be affected where they get stuck at. Lots of glitches have been reported (not experianced by me yet) in multiplayer with ranking up and progression of the achievements for the 360.
- Multiplayer and lack of split screen.. I stated the positive for MP, but the downer to the game is that there is no split screen. My fiance is a huge GB fan like me and we cannot play together unless we both have XBL accounts and gold memberships to boot. Somewhat a downer but I knew this going into the game.
Average 3rd Person Shooter     On: 2009-11-02

Theres nothing groundbreaking about this game. If it were not for the nostalgia of Ghostbusters, youd have to knock it down a star. All in all, it wasnt terrible and will keep you entertained for awhile. It was a forgettable game for me.
I'm a ghostbuster need I say more?     On: 2009-10-22

I remember reading the article in Game Informer about this game. It was promised to be, what the third movie would have been.

Yes they delivered. And really one upped it in some ways. Because you arent just watching the Ghostbusters, you -are- a Ghostbuster.
The Proton pack, is exactly like you would have thought it would be. The slime gun is equally cool. My least favorite weapon is probably the dark matter shotgun. But hey, I still enjoy using it.

Wrestling and wrangling ghosts around is a blast, I just wish there were more Ghosts to bust in the game.

The Story work, is perfect for a Ghostbusters story. Its exactly the caliber of humor, and pseudoscience you expect from Ghostbusters, and is well paced with the rest of the game.

The Cast, with the exception of Bill Murray still has the magic and the charm. Bills performance just seems a little stale to me.
Everyone else is dead on.

It was an incredibly long wait for a good Ghostbusters game, (We never actually had one) so I find it very appealing to put it mildly.

Two things I hope for in the sequel. One make it more open world. PLEASE! I dont think the Developers quite grasped, just how much the fans of Ghostbusters would just -looooove- spending countless hours roaming around and busting ghosts. If there was an option to do so in this game, I guarantee you I could have played this game another 40 hours or more.

The second thing? Is alot more minor. Id like the protagonist to speak. While it is awesome that we get to watch the other Icons of Ghostbusting speak and do their thing, I wish that the protagonist would get in there with em as far as speaking goes.

Ghostbusters, is an excellent but fairly short romp into something we Gamers really dont get that often these days. Original Fun. No taking itself too seriously issues here, just some excellent game play witty dialogue, and the joy of using the proton pack.
A fantastic time for Ghostbusters fans; a good rental for everyone else     On: 2009-10-20

I should inform you that this review is incredibly biased. Im a Ghostbuster junkie; I cant get enough of `em. I grew up with the Ghostbusters movies, cartoons, toys, and the crappy 8-bit video games. I loved every bit of it--even the terrible games. Even so, I was a bit skeptical of developer Terminal Realitys attempt to revive the Ghostbusters franchise. How could a video game capture what Terminal Reality promised: a third movie in video game form?

Im happy to report that Ghostbusters the Video Game is precisely that: a playable Ghostbusters 3 for your PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. Its got everything youd want in a new movie: ghosts, spooky visuals, great music, and the full Ghostbusters cast (with two exceptions, which Ill note later). If youve been dreaming of a new Ghostbusters movie, you cant do much better than this for the time being.

If however youre hoping for a fun gameplay experience, you might be a bit disappointed. Ghostbusters contains one of the neatest but wonkiest combat control schemes in gaming history. Players, taking on the role of a new recruit to the expanding Ghostbusters team, get to strap on a proton pack and blast, freeze, and slime all manner of spectral enemies, just like in the movies but with a few new additions, such as the Stasis Stream (freeze ray) and Meson Collider (kind of like short bursts from an assault rifle). Players will need everything at their disposal to make through the rather short but often difficult story mode.

What makes the game so difficult at times is the chaotic mess that results in every ghostly encounter. There unfortunately is never just one ghost. Two, three, or more show up on each occasion, each needing wrangling, slamming, and eventual dunking into a trap. The games capture-and-trap mechanic is fun, and works well enough, but succeeding in this endeavor is hampered by the insanity unleashed by each ghost. Spooks will toss furniture, blast otherworldly goo, launch energy waves, and generally beat the crap out of players. This results in constant knockdowns and the need to revive teammates, especially on higher difficulty settings. It also doesnt help that the games AI--both teammates and enemies--is terribly stupid. By the time players reach the final boss, these issues may drive some into a downward spiral of frustration and rage.

Thankfully, the story makes up for every issue. Every actor except Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett) and Rick Moranis (Louis Tulley) returns to reprise their original Ghostbusters roles. Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and even William Atherton (the venomous Walter Peck) return to voice their iconic characters, and Ackroyd and Ramis helped pen the games script. The Ghostbusters sound like their old selves, despite two decades between their last outing and the video game. Atherton isnt quite as sharp as he used to be, and Brian Doyle-Murray (Bills brother) is bit tacky as the mayor, but the other actors bring their A game. The story uses a lot of references to the old films, and plenty of familiar faces (human and otherwise) show up, but the new stuff is fantastic. I found myself chuckling often, and doubled over laughing on a couple occasions (Winstons material in particular is darn good stuff).

The games multiplayer component is strangely as exciting as the story, and a better implementation of the games combat mechanic. Four players work together to capture ghosts, destroy evil relics, survive wave after wave of ghosts and demonic entities, and much more. Players choose a weapon specialization, a Ghostbuster (warning: everybody wants to be Peter Venkman), and whether or not to play a one-off "job" (another word for the various modes), or several jobs in a short campaign. Players earn cash towards rank upgrades, which bring better equipment and other enhancements. While the jobs are all cooperative, theyre also a bit competitive as each player strives to be the best Ghostbuster, earning the most cash and therefore ranking higher than their teammates. Bottom line: the Ghostbusters multiplayer is better than it has any right to be.

Whether or not you should buy this game is dependent on your love of the Ghostbusters franchise. Despite my heavy bias, I wasnt wowed by the single-player campaign, but the story was funny and charming. Issues aside, fans like me should buy this game ASAP. If youre intrigued, but not a die-hard Ghostbusters nut, you should probably rent this instead. The story mode is quite short (well under 10 hours, unfortunately), but whats there is choice material, and the multiplayer component is strong enough to keep you coming back for more. Though its a bit rough in spots, the complete Ghostbusters the Video Game experience is something special.
i liked it     On: 2009-10-04

i liked this game alot. its looks great and the story is really good also. sound is also really good. the only thing i did not like was it was kind of a short game. but still good non the less.
Very well done! This is how you do a sequel when it's been 20 years     On: 2009-10-01

Most of the time movie games are gimmicky and unsatisfying, following worn out patterns with movie elements loosely incorporated. I was worried that Ghostbusters would be the same, but when I read that this game is intended to be a sequel to Ghostbusters 2, I was intrigued. This game is challenging, satisfying, and lots of fun for people like me who grew up with the Ghostbusters. It feels like its just going to be a regular shooter at first, but the proton pack with all its handy attachments really adds a lot of dynamic. Weakening ghosts, grabbing them with a capture stream and slinging them around, throwing out a trap and trying to wrangle them in. The physics are fantastic. As the game progresses, you get more variety of proton pack functions, and different enemies that must be handled in specific ways. The storyline is interesting and brings back fun elements from the movies we all remember, and having the authentic voices just makes this game a pleasure. The graphics are fantastic (my wife pointed out that the proton packs look better than they did in the movies) and this game sounds a little better than most other games Ive played with dolby digital enabled. Everything from the creepy voices and sounds filling the room to even just the noises that the proton pack makes when you move around. Im really glad this game out, as its presented a great opportunity to introduce my kids to the Ghostbusters franchise that I loved so much when I was a kid.
A Dream come true!     On: 2009-09-29

Love this game. The gameplay, & graphics are excellent. If you like ghostbusters you will like this game.
great game     On: 2009-09-22

When theres nothing going on and nothing on television looks good, what game you gonna play? Ghostbusters.
Love it!     On: 2009-09-14

This game is awesome. It is definatly a third movie. Highly entertaining. Make sure to take the time to read the story to all the artifacts!
great game but too short     On: 2009-09-09

I purchased this game for the Xbox 360 and finally got around to playing it. This is a really fun game, its hard to die so if you are looking for something to sit back and play without worrying about dying over and over this is a great game. Thats not to say there is no challenge because there definately is. Capturing ghosts and exploring is what makes this game so fun, the puzzles are usually pretty easy to solve but a couple had me stumped until I had to look online for answers. Overall this is really fun game, but is very short. I beat the game in 8 hours, with most of the game explored. If you are interested in this game wait awhile for it to drop a few bucks and pick it up.
Ghostbusters The Video Game (Xbox 360)     On: 2009-08-25

Great adventure game and a MUST buy for fans of the Ghostbusters. Also has enough enjoyment to appeal to non fans.It is quite linear but that doesnt stop it from being an enjoyable experience and having replay value. There are a few flaws with the multiplayer achievements however when the game hits European release hopefully there will be a patch to address those issues.
Funny but not great     On: 2009-08-22

This game had me very excited, and with most things that get hyped up,they pale in comparison. I enjoyed the videos and jokes written into this game more than i actually liked playing the game. i would rather pay outrageous concession stand prices to see this in movie form, than play the game.
Ghostbusters     On: 2009-08-21

This game has a lot of appeal if you like the franchise. Which I do. However the gamplay becomes very repeitive. The methods used to destroy enemies is the same or is so scripted that you feel as if you are back in a NES and if you know the right patterns of the "bosses" you can do it with your eyes close.

Dont get me wrong the game is challenging at spots. Mainly because you will be flooded with enemies and still have you but one method to kill them. Now you will use cool gadgets to find out the best way to attack and follow that or fight forever.

There is no character creation in the game. It ask you to enter a name then refuses to use it through out. They make a somewhat funny excuse of why but it quickly gets played out and old. I would have loved to just watch the movie minus the gameplay. It has its moments, they are few and far between but thay exsist.

Graphic I loved it. It was awesome to see the guys back in business. The cartoony look was perfect for the genre of the films. Even though tey had that cartoon feel there was no lack of detail. Very well done. If as much thought would have went into the playability of the game we would have had a "HIT".

I was really invovled in the game and enjoyed the cinamgraphics, but that slowly faded. The scenes became too long. The gameplay too short. The bad guys too predictitable. I put it down after about 5 hours and have yet to pick it back up. It is on my list to trade in at my local Game Stop as a down Payment for the New Modern Warfare coming out.

At least I know it will be used for something good.
Good for the Story, Bad for the gameplay     On: 2009-08-20

Ghostbuster fall down, I go pick up Ghostbuster. Ghostbuster falls down again, I go pick up Ghostbuster again. Ghostbuster fall down, I leave him down. If you enjoy a video game version of the Medical Alert braclet commerical, Ghostbusters: The Game is for you!

Besides the repetitive gameplay (you are either shooting ghosts with 1 of 4 weapons, or shooting ghosts and trapping them), the unendurable load times in between deaths (10 seconds, at least), and the puzzles (that arent brain busters but sometimes take forever because the objects arent rendered well), what Ive found most irritating is the glitches. Ive had to restart several checkpoints because of in-game errors and if you think Peter Venkman gets irritated with Ray sometimes, you havent seen me having to replay a 15 minute ghost shootout when I was deathly bored the first time. There are way too many flaws in this game for anyone to pay actual money for it. Ghost money, maybe.

3 notable examples of errors I enjoyed: I could not leave the kitchen after killing all of the ghosts because the game didnt register it (the Ghostbusters have to say "all clear," but never did), and in the graveyard a ghost got stuck in a tree on the other side of a wall, so I couldnt trap it and therefore could not advance. Strange, but no, gentle reader when something is strange in your neighborhood you dont call the Ghostbusters. You call the nearest resell shop and ask how much they are giving for a used copy of this game.

And the third example, something that actually made me spit: when you get knocked down, it will happen quite often that the other Ghostbusters, if any of them are standing right next to you, will run away instead of picking you up. As he returns, hes knocked down and you fail the mission. That means you have to watch and listen to the same scene, sometimes 20-30 times, depending on the difficulty level. Fun? No. Not fun.

What Id recommend is renting it for a friend and watching them suffer playing it. Whenever there is a cut scene, ask the victim to call you back in the room so you can watch. Youll save yourself money, youll safe yourself grief, you may lose a friend ... so, make sure you invite a so-so friend.

I feel like a kid again, but in a good way.........     On: 2009-08-19

I was waiting for this game before I even knew they where going to make it, and I am very pleased.
When I was a kid I played with all the action figures and watched the movies like crazy, I also watched The Real Ghostbusters cartoon every Saturday. Ghostbusters was a highlight of my child hood, and now I feel like kid again! This is great!

Im a Wii/PS3/Xbox 360 owner and I wasnt sure which to get it on, I heard the 360 graphics are better but only by a little, so I picked the 360 obviously, and I was not disappointed. Although I dont think the PS3 would have been a bad choice.

The Gameplay is great, its smooth and the view is nice for a 3rd person, Im not a fan of 3rd person (I prefer 1st person) but this was done very well and there was actually a point in seeing the guy in front of you, First its neat to see the character, Second is the overheat meter, third is the proton pack changes a bit according to the pack mode your in for the Ghost you are busting.

The graphics are not bad, but I think could have been better, just look at other new games like KZ2 or Modern Warfare 2, But in this game to me graphics dont even matter.

The story is fantastic, Thanks Dan Aykroyd for being so awesome, and making sure everything was correct. The humor is so funny, or at least just as good as the Movies, heh the achievement points all have great names to reference the original movies.

The multiplayer is pretty fun, Team based ghostbusting, Im liking it, a bit like a 3rd person Left for Dead but the ghosts instead of zombies and more area based 4 player co-op, But either way TEAM WORK is FUN!!! LOL

Anyway I love this game, I really hope there is some DLC for it weather is be new multiplayer maps or maybe new single player missions like the Red Faction Guerilla did.

Its super fun if you liked the movies, you will also like the game Enjoy!!!

My first Atari Title in Gozer knows when     On: 2009-08-01

I played the demo to check out the hype and wow, it was fun. I was screaming for joy plastering my first ghost against a wall and sucking it into a trap. I practically ran out to get this game and when I played it, I was even more impressed. It was cowritten by Dan Akroyde and it follows very tight with the Ghostbusters movies. Im not a huge fan of Ghostbusters so I might be mistaken but the voice acting and the faces are spot on. I feel like Im really there with them bustin up some ghost and gargolyes, finding out things that were left untied with the movies. The whole gang is here too. Atari games have been notoriously bad and I never bought one before, what an awesome turn around for these folks! Even my wife commented on how good the game looks and that saying a lot.

The only reason why it got 4 stars is because of occasional camera/boss/control issue. Boss bears down on you, you cant see him, and you seem to get stuck on random bits of trash, bam! your dead. I found what works best is to run to the far side of the arena, blast away, let the boss clear out the trash, when he gets close, run to the other side and repeat.

Also this is one of the few games I seen with AI support that works well, they cover you, give USEFUL information, dont get annoying, stay out of your way, they help recover you without putting themselves in danger....on and on!
Bussin make me FEEL GooD!!!!!     On: 2009-07-30

If you are grownup like me (not a little babay or youngun) than you remeber the oldin day and they have a movie that come out called GHOSTBUSSERS!!!! In ghostbussers Bill Maray and Dan Akroid and Haruld Rams play science DWEEBS who get fired from they science job and have to start bustin ghosts like GANGSTAS all over the town they live in which I think is Chicago which is the BIG CITY. They shoot lazers at ghosts and go all around sayin BUSSIN MAKE ME FEEEL GOOD which was also the tittle of teh songs sung by Ray Parkman Junior for the movie which was a HIT SONG and was badass!!!!!!!!

Well now you can play as a ghosbuster and bust slimers and ghosts and witches and warlocks and FEEL GOOD just like ray Parkman predict you would!!!!!!!!!!

Ghostbussers is teh new game from Activevision and it wont just bust your wallet LOLOLOL!!!!! In it you plays as a new recruit who want to bust some ghosts and man do you ever get to just like in the olden times movie. In the begining you start out and you got hired to bust ghosts and bill muray take you on a tour of the ghostbusting house but then slimmer get out and you have to chase slimmer and catch him again just like in the movie dawg and so you chase slimmer all over the fancy hotel and destroy all the furnture and fickstures of lights and shanaleers and evelators and hallways and you shoot lazers to do this REAL LAZERS (well real in video game terms) and then you catch slimmer and its the BEST GAME EVER face it I dont care what else you play on the Xbox you aint never played no game as good as this or any other game that have lazer in them all other games where you shoot is with normal guns not lazers like Call from duty and Call from Duty 4.

After I caught slimmer Travis come up and take my xbox well reall it his xbox and he loanded it to me cuz he was in juvie for setting a car on fire but it was an abandon car anyway he come back and i dint exactly get to finish the game but isnt it OBVIOS to any moran that this = BEST GAME EVER ON THE PLANET IN HISTORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to conclude, by this game THE GHOSTBUSERS it is totally powning and remember, I GET SLIMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who you gonna call.. .Ghostbusters!!!     On: 2009-07-29

Not everyone's cut out to be a ghostbuster     On: 2009-07-25

Most movies based on video games suck. Likewise, most video games based on movies suck. This one is an exception. It has a lot to do with the fact that Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd co-wrote the script for the game. The graphics are good and original characters are all well rendered with good voice acting. Better still, the original actors return to voice all four ghostbusters, even the token black one Winston. The original actress returns to voice the secretary, although she looks younger and hotter in the game. They even got the original actor to voice, Peck, their annoying antagonist. Bill Murrays brother voices the mayor and he looks like himself. You play a generic fifth rookie ghostbuster, who doesnt get a name or a voice. You are referred to as rookie and cadet most of the game.
The game play, sound effects and graphics are pretty good. You get a small variety of weapons, and have the ability to upgrade them somewhat. You acquire money throughout the game for capturing or destroying ghosts, and can use that money for your upgrades. You should be able to purchase all your upgrades well before the game is over, after which money is useless.
The game features the original theme music though not the whole cord, and not the song (no lyrics).
This game can be enjoyed by kids and adults, and features a fair amount of humor. You will chuckle more then actually laugh. Difficulty on the normal setting is actually pretty challenging. However, the difficulty of certain parts is really sporadic, as most of the boss fights I found easy, where as some supposedly simple parts proved very difficult and took repeated tries. The hardest part of the game is near the end by a gate, and is ridiculously difficult.
Fortunately the game saves your progress automatically at check points and there are many. Unfortunately you cant have saved games to just replay your favorite parts, and the although the checkpoints are usually well placed, some of them require you to go back through boring stuff you already did.
The game is very linear and there are no choices to be made. At several points in the game you have the ability to wander around the station before going on your next mission. Its interesting the first time, but there is nothing to do there, and its absolutely pointless. I get the feeling they wanted to add something else to do there, and ran out of time or money.
Some jokes, ghosts and places are rehashed from the movies. All things considered this was pretty good for a games based on a movie, and most fans of the movies will probably enjoy this
Suprisingly fun with two major flaws.     On: 2009-07-23

When it comes to movie games, I dont have much confidence in them being any good based on past experiences. However I downloaded the Ghostbusters demo from Xbox Live and I was entertained enough to rent it a few days later. While the game itself is pretty good, there are two major flaws that caused me to lose interest and turn the game off.

I have no issues with the visuals and sound, while it isnt anything that will win any awards, they are quite good. These days, I feel too much emphasis is put on visuals anyway and not enough in more important areas like game play. The controls themselves are smooth it is a bit complicated and since the rental did not come with a users manual, I had to rely on the on screen instructions which dont do a very good job in fully explain EXACTLY what you are doing and why you are doing it. Of course if I actually had a manual to read from, then this probably wouldnt even be an issue.

From what Ive seen so far, the storyline is done pretty well. You dont play as one of the original Ghost Busters, instead you play as a new recruit and you join the other four as you hunt down ghosts in various areas of the city. The voice acting is authentic and sounds like their real life counterparts, but for some inexplicable reason your character doesnt seem to have the ability to speak so I suppose he communicates with the others psychopathically. As you are playing, the game tells you how to do certain things, however as I stated before it does not fully explain why you are doing it as a manual would but eventually you should be able to catch on.

Even during the first level, the game started getting a little repetitive which is what I expected eventually, but this is not the main problem I have with this game. It didnt take long to realize that there are two major flaws in the game that just often times end up with me turning the game off. First of all there is so much going on with flying ghosts as well as ground monsters that appear behind you so its hard to avoid damage; take too much damage and you will fall to ground hoping your teammates will revive you before you die. Most of the time they revive you quickly but sometime they will walk right by you and do nothing. You also will spend a lot of time reviving them, putting your self in danger due to the fact that most monsters attack from all directions.

Once you do die, you have the option of restarting from the previous checkpoint. Choose this option and you are forced to sit, wait, and wait some more through an extremely long loading screen. When the game finally does load, you will be more than likely disappointed to find out that you didnt apparently didnt kill enough ghosts or get far enough to start later in the level and you have to do everything all over again. This happens constantly during game play and it is extremely frustrating having to start all over again.

I dont know about you, but I absolutely hate having to something over and over and over again, and for games that use checkpoint systems, this is exactly what will eventually happen. I havent gotten a gauge of how far the checkpoints are from each other, but even if they are relatively close, the long loading times cancel that out. After dying for the 5th or 6th time, I honestly got tired of having to start over from the beginning so I just turned the game off and watched TV. I came back to it later on and progressed more into the game, but the checkpoint/loading problems will be a recurring problem in the game.

However that being said, the game is extremely fun to play its just too bad that the poor implementation in handling game saves and loading times take away from it. Its definitely worth a rental, but until you can gauge your tolerance for the load times and incredibly stupid check point system, I can not recommend a purchase right out and certainly not for regular price that most all video games are going for these days.

If you like Ghostbusters then you will like this game     On: 2009-07-17

Ghostbusters the videogame was overall a fun game especially if you are a fan. I thought the difficulty was a little low but that helped with the replay ability. The on-line portion was acceptable but thrown together at the end.
Goods: Fun for fans, Good graphics, great story
Bads: Start of game was poor (had to tell the game to override when you start but it was not an override), difficutly a little low, no map (had to listen to the story and find/follow actors, this was on purpose).
good good good     On: 2009-07-17

I thought this game wasnt going to be good but I was very wrong. This is one of the best games of the year.Charecters are funny. The ghosts are cool and its fun to mess the place up.The slime looks groes and cool. And the first time you play it the ghosts can scare the crap out of you in some seens. It gets a little easy if you keep on playing it but its worth it.So if your thinking of getting this game go ahead.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game

This game is amazing. Its like having a third movie, but only as a videogame. Completely pwns Ghostbusters 2 with Viggo the Carpathian.
See a ghost/shoot a ghost/trap a ghost     On: 2009-07-14

I was so excited for this game to come out, but after playing it for only a few minutes I lost interest. The game is certainly better than any other ghostbusters game in the past, but they didnt set the bar very high.

I have to give this game some praise for getting the original actors and writers for the movies, but to be honest, none of them sound the same and they lack enthusiasm to say the least.

I thought the story sequences were pretty cool; needless to say that after fighting ghosts for 30 minutes, I couldnt wait to just go back to the story....in fact, I would have just assumed cutting out the game and seeing the whole thing in just story cut scenes....they should make another real movie...anyways

I suppose this game delivers what it promises; if you love the ghostbusters, you get a chance to get a whole new story and hear all of your favorite characters come to life again. The only problem is that this isnt a movie, its a game, and games are supposed to be fun...this one just isnt. Youll play through the whole game shooting at ghosts, throwing out your trap, beating the ghost on the pavement and then trapping them....oh yeah, I forgot that you also have to vent your proton pack every 15 seconds while youre trying to fight the ghosts.

The biggest disappointment to me was that Bill Murray came off as someone who had just had a full frontal lobotomy. I dont know what they paid him to do the game, but it seemed like it wasnt enough. Its a shame because he was my favorite actor in the original movies, and to be honest they could have had anyone play him in the game and I wouldnt have noticed.

I think that people gave this game such good reviews because they were so excited by the idea of the game that they were able to overlook the boring monotony of actually playing it.

In summation: the brevity of this game combined with the repetitive gameplay, eliminates replay value, so Id have to recommend renting this one....sorry
Very fun     On: 2009-07-13

When I first played that game, I was amazed by the games continuity to the movies, not to mention its references. The comedy was well detailed, as well as the graphics. The controls were a bit between easy and blocky, but the gameplay was very entertaining. I recommend this game to gb fans. It makes you feel like you are busting ghosts by its authenticity.
I Aint Afraid of No Ghost     On: 2009-07-12

Im a big fan of the Ghostbusters movies and when this game came out i almost pooped my pants. The story was written by original movie creators, so the plot is true to the series.

Character animation is really close to movie quality in game and cut scenes, but their eyes go crazy sometimes when they talk.

Like many people pointed out this game does not have co-op mode, but you play with 3 other bots. They are helpful on occasion and may show which way to go if youre lost and even help capture ghosts.
I played on easy setting and did not die a alot but when you get knocked out other bots can revive you and you can do same for them. When everyone gets knocked out , you will have to restart from checkpoint.

There are many weapons to choose other than proton gun such as slime gun and you can upgrade all your weapons several times with the money you make from capturing ghost.

After the mission is completed you return to Ghostbusters HQ and are allowed to freely explore it. There are bunch of stuff from the movie and all the artifacts you collect in missions will be there. To go to next mission just go to Ecto 1.

Multiplayer part of the game is my favorite part. There are different jobs such as protection,survival(10 waves),slimer slam(slam slimer into traps),destruction and more. For every job you completed you receive money to level up your character and the higher the level the more weapons you get. Most jobs have power ups available in a level which you can use until out of ammo.

Some people complain the game is too short and i have to agree with them. It took me about 8 hours to complete the game because i wanted to explore and collect all artifacts and i played on easy. If you play on hardest diffuculty it will take you longer and give you some challenge. Also the boss fights were too easy except for the stone qupids on cemetery level were tough.

Overall i would recommend this game to anyone who is a big fan of Ghostbusters and enjoys action/comedy/horror games.

Sweet game     On: 2009-07-11

As a little kid growing up watching the ghostbusters movies, all I wanted was a proton pack! Finally I get to do that! Yeah the game doesnt last a real long time, yeah there are some glitches, but nothing is that major that it takes away from the game performance. The new ghosts are cool, and some are kinda creepy (the black widow ghost). Overall it has little hints from the movies like the stay puft marshmellow man, and Vego the carpathian painting is in there! And you couldnt have a ghostbuster game without slimer I mean come on! Cool game, cool graphics, and its awesome that all the original GBs lended there voices to the game. Makes it feel like it is part 3. Awesome game, awesome time, and i finally got to play with a proton pack.
Please be warned fans     On: 2009-07-11

I just rented ghostbusters for 360 and am stunned with the deceiving 1-4 player icon on the back. I wanted to get drunk with my buddies have some fun being a ghostbuster we were practically calling out our picks with a coin toss for Egon (being the least popular). Fun night spoiled. I Should of bought me a wii because thats the only console were you can play multi-player splt-screen. I guess if your a loner ghostbuster fan this game aint too bad but its far from being a classic instead its more like a dim plaintive memory.
Adequate     On: 2009-07-10

For fans of the movie, this feels like a dream come true, however the game does have its flaw, the story doesnt make much sense and the game just throw every past enemies at you. Your companions get in the way a lot and you end up fighting for which trap to throw the ghost into. Sometimes it is also quite hard to tell what is going on in the screen. The game would have been much better if it let you decide where to go, like if it was a sandbox game. The different powers are interesting from a visual point of view but they really work the same way. Fans of the movie will still be overjoyed listening to the voices of the cast but this game is simply over too quickly and feel just a little too Hollywood to be a classic game like its movie predecessors.
9.5 out of 10. Except on Professional difficulty!     On: 2009-07-04

Id give the ghostbusters game a 9.5 out of 10, but on the professional difficulty Id give it an 8.5. The game is VERY fun, if you wanted to know what GB 3 movie would have been like, it would have been this game!I suggest this game for any GB fan! To me, it was def. worth the $60. Ive played through it 4 times on single player mode. Busting the ghosts doesnt get old, its a good feeling everytime. The controls are easy, using the different functions of the proton pack is really cool. Now onto the Professional difficulty. When 3 flying books can knock you out, and you have to just keep reviving the other busters, it makes you not want to play it on that difficulty, but if your like me, you try to get every achievement you can, and this one was worth 100G so yeah, it takes patientce. Online gaming is also suprisingly good! fun to play, and a little challenging. But overall, great game! I love it, and Im not gonna trade it in!
I Feel so Funky...     On: 2009-07-02

This is a textbook example on how games that are based on movies should be. Is it perfect? Certainly not, but its a step or two in the right direction. When you first trap a ghost, it feels you actually did something awarding (and indeed, you get money for every ghost you trap). The gameplay could be a lot better, but its not bad by any means.
Youre the rookie of the team (voiceless and nameless), and you go with the other Ghostbusters on an exciting new adventure. The voice acting is spot on and has all the original actors doing their roles in the films. I was surprised and delighted that the game was actually written by Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd.
A co-op compaign wouldve been nice, not to mention off-line multiplayer, but any Ghostbuster fan would love this game!
Good graphics and thats about it.     On: 2009-07-01

I have been waiting for this game to come out for a long time.So the outher night I went out and bought it.$64.I started to play it.The first thing is I was blown away by the graphics they are awsome.Prolly the best I seen on a video game.Your gun is prolly the coolest weapon ever in a game.catching and trapping the ghost is real fun and just blasting stuff with the gun is fun.now at first all this stuff blew me away and I was like wow this is really gonna be a grate game.then after about 6 hours into it I started to feel it getting repeatitive.Everything started to get played out and I was starting to get bored.I kept playing waiting for the next big thing this game had to offer and it Ended.yup only 7 stages total in the entire game. That really bummed me out.Just when I was starting to get into the game it ended. Its cut short way to short. Its a bummer cause this could have been one of the best games of all time but as usual developers cut us short.Amazing graphics and a cool gun do you no justice in a game that is LAME and only has about 6 hours of play in total.Without out the grahics being so good this game would have been nothing at all.I definately think you should try the game just to check it out.Its worth a play and you gotta check the grahics out but Id rent it dont buy it.
Very good but needs some polish     On: 2009-06-30

This is a fantastic game full of great locations. Top notch voice acting, music and sound-effects, truly authentic. Great job there!!

The only bad points to the game are that there is no co-op campaign, which makes no sense at all. I really get tired of developers saying that "it didnt fit with the story." Well guess what guys--then you need to change the story. Players would excuse almost anything if they can play with a friend. So stop using your plots as an excuse to me a game less than it should be.

Lastly, I have had a LOT of freezes. My machine locks up with this game about once every 1-2 hours, even though its installed on the drive. My machine does NOT lock up on any other game, so Im not sure if its a bug or what. A mild complaint perhaps, but it usually locks up in the middle of a very long boss battle.
This game is like being in the movie     On: 2009-06-28

I am 31 years old and seen each movie in the theater. The graphics on this game alone basically are better then the movie.
Its like we are the lead role in the 3rd movie. The comments from all the actors hold true to the original movies. I definately recommend this to any true Ghostbusters fan

Advetised as supporting co-op multiplayer     On: 2009-06-28

On one hand they got all the original voice actors back, they recreated locations from the movies and make a very eye pleasing, fun single player game. Other reviews here will go on and on about that.... The disappointment here is the lost opportunity for a free style split-screen multiplayer co-op mode that the packaging would mislead you to believe is included. I also purchased this game to play with the kids... While I have enjoyed Career mode so far, the lack of a free form multiplayer brings my rating down.

Sure I could have researched this, but the packaging says 4 player co-up (it also says 1 player which is confusing), the point is its a missed opportunity as this would be an excellent multiplayer co-op experience.

Finally! A good Ghostbusters game!     On: 2009-06-27

I was about 7 years old when the Ghostbusters were at their peak. Ghostbusters toys were every where, GB cartoons, GB cereal, video games, etc. I played the old Ghostbusters game as a kid and I was very disappointed. A million years later, I heard that it was going to be released for all major consoles. As soon as I caught a glimpse of the game play footage, my jaw dropped. This is the Ghostbusters game that I always wanted to play!

I hardly ever pay $60 for games. Usually, Ill wait until the prices go down, but I made an exception for this game. Let me tell you Ghostbusters fans..you wont be disappointed! You actually get to catch and trap ghosts. You also get to use the PKE ghost meter. Best part is that this game has very tight and neat graphics, too! My friends, who also grew up during the Ghostbusters era, were impressed with the game. Overall, its a fun game and seems to be geared towards Ghostbusters fans. No, its not perfect and it cant compete with games that are at the top. However, I do have to say that its probably one of the best movie-based video games yet. I hope they come out with a second one.
Just plain awesome     On: 2009-06-26

Ah yes, its finally here. Thats right folks, theyre here to save the world again, as the Ghostbusters video game has finally been unleashed, and be glad that it has. Playing as a young protege on the first day of the job, you accompany our favorite wise-cracking ghost wranglers as New York City is thrown under siege by a bevy of ghosts and other creepy baddies. Technically speaking, the game looks great despite some minor graphical glitches, and even though the somewhat cumbersome controls take time to get used to, wrangling ghosts ends up proving to be a fun and rewarding experience. Adding to the fun that Ghostbusters ends up conjuring is a funny script with plenty of witty dialogue written by original film scribes Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd, and to make matters even better, Ramis, Aykroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson all lend their voices to the characters they played way back when, along with other stars of the film Annie Potts and William Atherton, as well as Alyssa Milano as a pivotal character whom Venkman takes a fancy to. Multiplayer modes provide even more fun as well, with the only real drawbacks of the game being that it is a little too short, and the combat itself can be a little too repetitive. Still though, if you are a Ghostbusters fan in the very least, you can easily overlook these flaws and still get plenty of enjoyment out of what they find here. All in all, Ghostbusters is a pure enjoyable blast, and if you grew up with the films, cartoon, toys, or whatever; this game is a must-have.
This is how a game based on a movie should be done!     On: 2009-06-25

This is a game I just knew was going to suck. Its not that many games based on movies that do well and this licence has been sitting almost 20 years with little to no activity. However I am really surprised at how well it plays! Even when I read awhile back that this would be the definitive 3rd movie (actually now there is talk that a real celluloid movie coming) I wondered how they would pull this off. I must say that using the writing as well as voice talents of the Ghostbusters cast makes this a great game to get into. Any company that wants to use a movie licence to make a game really should take notes on how to create an immersive story.

Moving right along, I really love the fact that there is no HUD clogging up the screen with useless info, some really tight graphics and again great banter among the cast DURING the course of the game. Any of the reviews you probably read are already spot on. This game keeps you busy. You can upograde your proton pack, scan for ghosts to get nto your Spirit guide etc.

My only complain of course is that in the game you cant control your favorite Ghostbuster unless you play it in MP mode which also handles pretty well.

IN some places it feel repetitive because you are actually killing some spirits as opposed to actually trapping them but part of the fun of course is some of the bigger bosses.

The set peices are also impressive and help for the immersion experience.

There are a few plotholes in the game which I wont give away which might spoil some peoples fun but what I would recommend is watching the movies again and catch some stuff you may have missed or didnt get which will make this game all the more enjoyable!

Pick this game up and happy Ghostbusting!

Fun Game, But....     On: 2009-06-24

Im the Dad who forked over $53 on pre-order so my kids could have this game as a reward for a good school year. And here are their gripes about the game:

1. Single Player. I couldnt tell on pre-order whether this was 1 player or more, but since there are 4 ghostbusters we presumed it would be a multi-player game (a la "i get to be Egon" "i get to be Ray"...). But alas, the kids all get to watch one person play the game. BOOOOOO!

2. My kids are bummed that you cant save the game. Every time they start, its a new game. I read on the reviews that there are checkpoints that automatically save the game...Im sure the kids will eventually figure it out, but why wouldnt they just allow you to save the game at the point youre at?

Those 2 things made me bring down the rating to 2 stars. The graphics, voices, quips, etc. are all entertaining...but this is a "could have been great" video game thats just ok.
QUIT READING!! GO GET THIS GAME!!!!!!!     On: 2009-06-23

I suggest that you stop reading after this post and go immediately and get this game. If you are a Ghostbusters fan or a fan of any of the actors, you will love this game.

The Graphics are amazing. While you play you will find yourself NOT pressing the buttons vigorously to skip the cinema scenes. You will want to watch. They can be pretty funny. They did good job writing the story too. Some of the game is actually pretty creepy which was a surprise but definitely cool.

The game play is pretty simple and very addictive. Whats more there is amusing banter and dialog even during the game play (which can be distracting but who cares!!! Its funny)

The Multiplayer is pretty neat although I havent played it a whole lot.
A great comeback for the Ghostbusters in digital style!     On: 2009-06-23

Set in 1991, New Yorks favorite parnormalists known as The Ghostbusters are still eliminating spirits. A new recruit joins the amazing four to help our fellow men but a new evil force is driving the city into chaos including the Sedwick hotel where the boys busted Slimer for the first time. It seems that the boys in suits including the newest member will face a bigger challenge then the last two adventures they did.

An outstanding and worthy game for the popular motion picture series is definitely stuff that delivers to fans of the movies. It reunites the actors like Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson as the Ghostbusters especially Annie Potts as Janine and William Atherthorn as Walter Peck with some new characters voiced by Brian Doyle Murray and Alyssa Milano as Peter Venkmans new love interest. The graphics are outstanding yet realistic that really makes the GB characters look just like their movie counterparts and awesome creature designs. The Controls are very unique on how you can capture ghosts in different ways then trap them just like in the movies, the voice acting is outstanding here including the writing which the game was written by Ramis and Ackroyd. Its a fairly simple but unique game that plays as the third movie but as a game instead of a film, you even get to meet some familar faces like Slimer with Stay Puft Marshmellow Man who is more powerful this time even with killer marshmellow minions even that librarian ghost.

Here in this game the score to the original GB is used as the soundtrack for it as it even has the famous theme song by Ray Parker Jr. and this game even expores the origins of the first two adventures even on what originally caused the river of slime in part 2. it even incorporates the same humor that made the original a masterpiece and you even can use different blaster weapons such as the slime one used in part 2.

One of the best games ive ever played coming for a GB fan like myself, if your a fan of the movies then youll have a blast that is probably the best GB game since the Sega Genesis GB game and Real Ghostbusters Arcade game, its even better then the horrendous NES GB 1 and 2 games.
like playing a movie     On: 2009-06-22

It really is like playing a movie. The game is really fun, but pretty linear. Not to say its a bad thing unless youd prefer not to play something like that. Having said that it is tremendous fun; I dont think youd need to be a fan to like it but it helps. I could see kids liking this game. It can be frustrating at times, but the normal mode game setting works really good challenge wise and pacing. You just hang around and follow the guys around and bust ghosts where you need to; the pke meter pretty much tells you when to use it. The various gun setting make for a lot of fun.
Great music score and voice acting. cut scenes are good as well.
Overall great game for this type of gameplay.
A long hoped for gift for Ghostbusters fans!     On: 2009-06-21

As a fan of the Ghostbusters, Im really enjoying this game. It makes bustin ghosts and ghouls a lot of fun while requiring some skill. The graphics are terrific, the levels are different and interesting, and the game provides a cool immersive in-movie feel. And seriously, how often does a video game based on a movie get the whole gang of big-time actors to write and voice it, when the movie came out 25 years ago? I encourage older and newer fans everywhere to purchase this game and live the magic.
We Have the Tools!!!!     On: 2009-06-20

The Ghostbusters first came into light in movie form back in 1984 and with some of the, at the time, top comedic talents became in a huge hit. The Ghostbusters then returned for the next movie in 1989. And now in the form of a video game, after countless spinoffs...we have a 3rd installment all with the original cast(only missing Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis), with that said, if your a fan of the movies you owe it to yourself to get this game.

Once you pop in the disk and load it up, youre treated like your part of the next installment of the franchise. The story takes place a few years after part 2 ended. The new rookie (you the player) will be tagging along with the group as a guinea pig of sorts to test out new equipment. Here the plot unfolds in front of you as Peter, Ray, Egon, end Winston trade dialogue and watch a few cut scenes. The positive to all this is the story and the dialogue are a treat to watch and hear. Listening to Murray try to pick up ladies while on the job is great fun. Even Ramis and Aykroyds "sciences" jargon is really cool and makes any fan all giddy inside. Trust me the story doesnt disappoint.

With that out of the way, lets get to the rest of whats important, game play. The game plays as a 3rd person shooter but rather then guns your shooting your trusty Proton Packs. The beam is used to weaken ghosts until you can hold them with it. Then just toss a trap, move them over it and watch them get sucked in. Capturing ghost is one of the best features and feeling in the game...and its a good thing to because youll be snagging them left and right.

Youll also be able to test out some of the new and old equipment. The PKE Meter is now in your hands and when you switch to it youll be in First Person with night vision looking around. The new equipment has you testing out a Slime Pack (like in part 2), Stasis Beam (slows enemies down), and a Guided Rapid Fire Beam. All of them are fun and useful against different ghost. For example if you a ghost possess someone then youll have to slime them down so the ghost will be released. Getting ghosts and finding different artifacts around the levels will give you money to purchase upgrades like steady streams and faster trapping.

The graphics are a nice welcome as well. The major standout is the models and the, in particular, the proton packs all look really nice. The proton packs moves and changes in lights and structure based on what beams you have equip. The ghosts look really well also. Throwing things at you and flying through walls adds to the satisfaction of capturing one. The environments are all outstanding and really set the games mood over all. Everything from the Ghostbusters Station to the sewers all has a nice look and feel to them. Youll also find a ton of Easter eggs that fans will enjoy.

Overall this game is a joy to play and I recommend it anyone who is interested. If youre a fan of the movies Im sure you already got a copy of it.
My most anticipated game for the 360 was not perfect     On: 2009-06-20

As a HUGE video game and film fanatic (let alone a GHOSTBUSTERS freak), I naturally pre-ordered this game way back in November 2007 when it was supposed to be released by Activision. After that plan fell through and the game was in limbo, Atari picked it up and it was back to pre-order status for me for about 9-10 months. I finally picked it up on Tuesday, June 16th, and this is what I have to say about it...

First off, it was great not only to see/hear all the Ghostbusters back in their roles together for the first time in 20 years doing what they do best, but it was great to finally play a Ghostbusters game that is actually PLAYABLE! Every video game from this franchise has just been complete garbage up until this point (I DID however like the Ghostbusters II NES game when I was younger, but I now realize how much it sucks). The story was really decent and the graphics were fantastic. However, there are some flaws. For example: the A.I. in this games is horrible. If youve been knocked down and are reliant on a team member to revive you, sometimes they can be RIGHT NEXT TO YOU and wont do a thing. Also, it seems as if you (as a recruit) are the ONLY ONE truly catching the ghosts. I never once saw any of the individual Ghostbusters catch a ghost by themselves in the game and I was playing on the hardest mode possible. Also, it would have been nice to do something else rather than JUST catch ghosts. I would have loved to have driven the Ecto-1 or have the freedom to run around the town or something. The lack of online co-op story mode also brings this down a notch. This is GHOSTBUSTERS, for crying out loud! It would have been WAY more fun to play the story with a friend online. Why not? Both of the GEARS OF WAR games had that function and the gameplay in this is frightenly similar, yet a lot less violent.

All in all, I say definitely check it out, but if youre going to buy it, wait until the price drops. I only buy video games which I know that Im going to be playing a lot, but unfortunately it seems as if this game is going to have a shorter life on my shelf. After all of this, I actually DID like the game... just dont think its worth $60 and not enough re-playability. Thats all.
Who you gonna call? Ghost busters!     On: 2009-06-19

Well needless to say this game is fairly short but its amazing. Full throttle in the seat of a ghost buster, now you will know exactly how its done! Very short AMAZING GAME! Online multiplayer says campaign but its more like a versus. Its a very fun game and im glad the original cast got together to do the voices. I love the cast and they need to get working on GB3 the movie!
Revelations 7:12     On: 2009-06-19

i have played a few games based on movies since i first got my ond NES. ive played some good ones and some that shouldve been flushed right down the crapper. GHOSTBUSTERS can be listed as one of the good ones along with Playstation 2s LOTR THE TWO TOWERS and RETURN OF THE KING, SNESs GOLDENEYE 007, Xboxs FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, QUANTUM OF SOLACE just to name a few that programmers got right. the programmers really got into the "spirit" of things when Bill Murray, Dan Akyroyd, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson all signed on to do voice work and the story by Akyroyd and Ramis themselves. a few familiar faces return such as the marshmallow man and the librairian. parents be advised though. even though the movies were rated PG and were shown on TV more times than can be counted this game is NOT APPROPRIATE for children under the age of 13 due to the language and also some of the ghosts and demons that players have to capture and kill can be pretty scarey.
For Fun, Action, and a bunch of Ghosts Who you gonna call?     On: 2009-06-19

Ghostbusters the video game is an awesome experience. I have been playing this quite a lot since recieved and beat the game. After beating it I want to still go back and play for some more Ghostbusting action on the hardest setting. Graphics are very impressive and run extremely well on an HDTV even on a regular this game looks great. Gameplay is fun and addicting especially if you are a hardcore Ghostbusters fan. Collectibles in game are based off antiques from the movies. The script and the humor from the movies, and the expressions from the actors are all present as well. Only a few negatives about this game and they can all be overlooked greatly. For example, some parts of the game get very dark, dark as to you only being able to see the lights of your equipment. Bosses are fairly easy but still very fun to fight them. Now go get this game and become a Ghostbusting maniac. It is worth everything and more.
Ghostbusters for Xbox     On: 2009-06-18

Ill keep this short and sweet as possible....

PROS: The game has great voice acting, soundtrack and graphics. The storyline is fun and entertaining. The game play is also fun. The humor is also good.

You get to use a proton pack and trap ghosts (A dream of mine since I was a kid) A lot of people are complaining about the controls...its not hard and If you cant figure it out press pause and look it up...it tells you exactly what to do!!

The online gaming is fun....you work with other players to catch ghosts...catching and blasting ghosts earns you cash.

Cons: It would have been nice to get to do other things beside blasting ghosts...like maybe getting to drive ecto-1 in a chase scene or something.

It was pretty short...I beat it in 2 days. Disappointing for a $60 purchase.

Conclusion: I was hoping to feel like I WAS a ghostbuster. Cruising around the city busting ghosts...trying to earn cash and a good reputation....instead it was more like watching ghostbusters while blasting my way through levels. I am not recommending this game to any of my friends because it is alot of money for such a short game.

Fun and even funner when you pull an all nighter playing the game     On: 2009-06-18

My youngest nephew bought this game and was too scared to play it. So I did. Since he had no school, and I have no life, We pulled a all nighter playing the game and beat it.
MEMORIES. Soda, popcorn, jack in the box and a Game to beat that night. We went to bed at 6/7? Forgot. XD
Its fun, kinda predictable and I hate it when peter kept disappearing and then pop up to scares us.
Ive always had nightmares of that staypuff marshmellow scene from the movie and to finally beat the fluff out of him made me face my fears.* I still cant eat marshmellows*
It has 8 levels and most of the time you have to find your way out of rooms. When playing the game with my nephew, he handed me the controls when he had to enter a dark room. The bosses are a pain but once you find the sequence to destroy them, theyre pretty easy.
The graphics are pretty good, seeing how the creators made them life like to any game that Ive played. Most of the time the characters dont look like whats on the box.
All the movie characters are in the game as the voices.
I hate the NES version and the constant charge for damages in that game was a pain...and it follows this game to. Try not to break anything b/c they charge you. It seems that Im working at a loss. After the damages added up, Im surprised that I didnt go bankrupt.*bailout?*
So, all in all I like the game. I didnt know it was coming out till my nephew showed me the game.

You are the fifth Ghostbuster     On: 2009-06-17

Anybody familiar with Ghostbusters is curious whether this is the game to get. Let me tell you...soon as you start playing, you automatically feel like the fifth member of the team. Rather than play as one of the four, youre a new recruit hired to test out new experimental equipment Egon Spengler has been working on, but the guys are too afraid to test it themselves. Already on your first day, theres a new paranormal disturbance in New York, and the guys have to investigate it. This is the dream Ghostbusters game fans have been waiting for a long time to play. The graphics: great. Nothing groundbreaking, just great. The controls are fairly easy to pick up on almost immediately. The script was written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, and all the original cast members are back, and this gives you an authentic Ghostbusters experience like no other game ever has. Youre pretty much given a followup to the last movie that came out 20 years ago! While there is a potential third film in the works, this will do for any fan. If you need to know anything else, just play the game. Nuff said.

One thing Id like to point out is the difference in platforms. The 360, PS3 and PC versions of the game all have the look and feel of the movies right down to the look of the actors faces. The Wii and PS2 versions however, they have more of a cartoon look, almost like The Incredibles. Apparently, these were handled by different developers, as other games have been lately such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Anybody that wanted the Uncaged Edition had to get it for 360, PS3, or PC. I dont have a Wii or a PS2, so I cant really say much about the gameplay, but for the look, I prefer the 360. So, I say go with either 360 or PS3 if you want the real game.
love it!     On: 2009-06-17

Bought this today and have been playing it all night. Great fun! It has all the original voice actors, which is simply fantastic, and you play the new 5th Ghostbuster, who is a rookie and is the "Experimental Equipment" guy. The game plays out like another movie, and references events heavily from both the original movies. Lots of in-jokes and background gags.

The gameplay is pretty solid. Its not perfect, per a few other reviewers comments, but the game has enough substance that I can easily overlook these flaws.

Overall a great game, lots of fun, strongly recommended.
Loading and reviving     On: 2009-06-17

Ill cut to the chase.
First the bad
1. The game automatically saves at checkpoints and nowhere else. Also, you can not save the game yourself so this leaves you solely dependent on checkpoints.
2. In the bigger fights where the entire Ghostbusters team is involved, youll spend as much as or more time reviving the AI team members as you will actually fighting the ghosts.
Now the positives
1. Well written script
2. Amazing graphics
3. Mimics the movies humor almost 100% or better
4. Fun and interesting fights when fighting alone or with a partner
5. The firehouse includes all the props from the 2 movies as well for you to interact with.

Overall, Id have to give it 4.5 stars out of 5. The half star is lost because of the save system and the ridiculous amount of reviving needed for the AI in large fights. Id say the game is worth 50 dollars, 55 if your a hardcore Ghostbusters fan like I am.
I, I, I, I, I ain't fraid of this game     On: 2009-06-17

I have yet to really start playing this game. But from what I have seen it is great. The game starts with the original theater opening to the movie. It really makes you feel like you are seeing the next movie. The game has co op as well as online multiplayer which add even more. So, after you play and beat the game, you can play with friends, either online or in co op.

The game does a great job of helping you figure out how to use the tools you have. You will hear Dr. Raymond Stance (voiced by Dan Aykroyd) telling you what you need to do in order to complete your goal. It is really helpful and fun to hear him tell you how to do the stuff you need to do. The controls are really easy to figure out and just feel right when you are doing them. The music is that from the movies which is great. I have the LPs and the CDs for both movies. So I could listen to it all day. I must say they do repeat the music some. I mean the music was made for a movie that was like 2 hours. So your going to hear some of the same stuff. I dont care though, I love it.

Also, I heard on a video review on IGN I think that the videos look great. Sometimes however they do in game movies. Which do not look anything like the movies on their own. This did not bother me though, as they still looked good to me.

In the game you play a new recruit. The Ghostbusters use you to test out all their new tools. You are still getting the hang of things though, so you have to make sure not to make an idiot of yourself and do things right. As I said in the beginning of the review, you will get help from Ray Stance when you are required to complete a task. It is easy to figure out how to complete the goals. The graphics in the game are some of the best I have seen. If you really look around, you will see so many little details. Its great.

The game has a good story and was written by Aykroyd and Ramis. You can really tell that these guys had something to do with it. A lot of the dialog reminded me of stuff I heard in the first two movies. So game fans and movie fans alike will be able to enjoy this game. Go on and give it a try. Just dont cross the streams!!!!

Finally a good Ghostbusters game     On: 2009-06-17

It has been a long time since Ive been so excited about anything relating to Ghostbusters. This game feels like a third movie in the franchise and is a blast to play.

I was surprised by how much fun I had with the multiplayer offerings and the single player career mode is outstanding. Having the original cast back for voice talent is a huge plus and my only major gripe was the relatively short length of the game.
Fans of the movie will rejoice!     On: 2009-06-17

I picked the game up today, and, Ill cut to the chase. Everyone one of my expectations were met and then some. Its exactly what Ghostbuster fans have been waiting for. Not only is it a game based-on-a-film thats actually good, an achievement in itself, the game truly feels like an authentic Ghostbuster experience.

Where do I begin? First off, the script was actually written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. All four Ghostbusters, Janine, and even Walter Peck are present and voiced by the original actors.

The sound is a larger part of the experience than any ordinary game. All of the music scoring and sound effects are taken directly from the films. Again, I cant stress enough the authenticity of the experience.

A nitpicky gamer could probably spot things here and there graphic-wise and complain about there being so many games that have better graphics, but take it from me. I hope Im not making out to sound as if they are sub-par, thats is hardly the case. Theyre pretty nice considering the entire package. Actually many of the details in locations are down-right amazing.

Replay value should be moderately high as there are numerous achievements that can be earned, beit replaying the campaign or co-op/vs missions, thus its a justifiable buy over a rental. Definitely a no-brainer if youre a fan.

I hope this helps.

Bustin' makes me feel good     On: 2009-06-17

I made the mistake of buying the PC version of this game first... After fighting with it for a couple hours I got it to run. (a story in itself) Despite how crippled it played I knew I would love this game.

So I drove off to the store and bought the 360 version. For the rest of the night I played the game. The graphics look great and the sound is awesome. From the first "Thummmmmm" of the proton pack firing up I was hooked.

Ive only got a couple hours into the game but so far I have no complaints. The controls are simple enough that you learn them quickly. The dialog is everything youd expect and want from the movies. Theres lot of little inside jokes and references to the first couple of movies.

This is a great game and definately worth picking up.
A Worthy Game     On: 2009-06-17

A very resource-hungry game.     On: 2009-06-17

Id like to tell you more about Ghostbusters the video game, but my system isnt powerful enough to play it. I didnt see the system requirements on the Amazon page for the PC version, but I wouldve bought the title anyways to try.

Though the game does run, in-game movement was like a slide-show and I couldnt advance far enough to bust a single ghost. If your video card has less than 512 megs of RAM on board? Dont bother buying this game. If you have less than 2 gigs of system memory? Dont buy the game.

Also keep in mind that the PC version does not include multiplayer. It was stripped out. Additionally, Amazon doesnt offer their special edition of the game for the PC.

I also had a problem with the installer. If you intend to install the game on a drive other than c:\\ and are having problems, consult the forums here. [...]
A great game if you are a fan of the original movie     On: 2009-06-17

Alright, lets get this out of the way, I grew up watching Ghostbusters. I have seen the original movie so many times that my original VHS copy is worn out and my DVD copy is starting to show its age. I have also watched the sequel many times and grew up with The Real Ghostbusters show. I have long awaited for a good Ghostbusters game as the NES, SNES, and Genesis Ghostbusters games are all pretty much garbage.

So how does this one hold up? Well, the game is driven by the story. The plot is also the only real reason to play through the game. All the cast members are back (minus Rick Moranis and Sigourney Weaver) for a story that is pretty interesting. Alyssa Milano is brought in as a female lead character. All-in-all, the cast seems to be a little rusty. There are some instances when Bill Murray comes off like he just doesnt care, the same thing can be said for Milano. They arent bad but I have seen more emotion from the two Gears Of War games.

The story is pretty interesting and I wont spoil anything. I think that it is worth playing through the game to find out what happens. As for the actual gameplay, it can get redundant. An entity pops out, you shoot it with one of four weapons, you get our your PKE meter, scan around, another ghost pops out, you shoot it, get out the PKE meter... You pretty much do this until you come across the "boss" ghosts for each little sub-level. You drain the ghosts of their energy, trap them, and move on. I had to take at least two unplanned breaks during each level simply because the game play was repetitive. Additionally, I feel like the first level is the best as you get to face off against Slimer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man (the two iconic characters from the franchise).

The graphics are pretty good considering that there are often 10 or more ghosts on the screen along with five different characters. The CGI cutscenes are great but the game engine cutscenes arent the best. They contain many video artifacts along with lip syncing issues. The sound is actually really good. I can hear the crashing of objects behind me and you will hear a nice audible touch when standing next to black slime (dont get too close, it will damage you).

Still, even with all its flaws, I believe that this is one of the best multi-platform games to come out in a while (I enjoy it more than Prototype) and it is easily the best movie license game. However, this may have to do with my rapid consumption of anything that is Ghostbusters. Fans of the original movies and cartoon series will greatly enjoy this game. I feel that gamers who are unfamiliar with Ghostbusters (or arent huge fans like us children of the 80s) will pass this off. Deep down, the game is rather shallow and is held together by the story. It is a basic shooter that doesnt bring anything new to the genre other than it being an official Ghostbusters title.

I rate it at 5 out of 5 stars for being a great Ghostbusters continuation (the story is much better than the second movie) but, as a game, I think it gets 3 out of 5 stars as others probably wont like it.
Who You Gonna Call?     On: 2009-06-16

Pros:

+Well written dialog and exchanges between the characters
+Top-notch production values
+A lot of variety in the gameplay and overall a lot of fun
+Lots of detail given to the environments
+Good voice acting
+The multiplayer we get is a lot of fun!

Cons:

-No multiplayer for the main campaign
-Some may not like the whole, "Silent protagonist" thing... this is all about the original four Ghostbusters

Almost everyone knows Ghostbusters. The film was a hit in theaters and it had a couple of animated television shows that were pretty good as well. The film in and of itself is one of my personal favorite of all time (not to mention one of the funniest). In the video game realm, video games based off movies are usually not that great. Most of them usually come off as rushed and unpolished. This isnt true of Ghostbusters. In fact, as you play the care and devotion to the game can be seen. If you were a fan of the movies in particular, this game is like a trip down memory lane.

To begin, the production values of this game are stellar. The environments look exquisite, and the cutscenes look great. The music from the film is thrown in (including the signature song) for good measure and used really well. Also, the writers of the movies hopped on board as well as the cast to provide the voices for Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston. That being said, theres a good dose of humor here, particularly from Peter. In all the years since the second Ghostbusters movie, its nice to know that the actors are still able to get back into character and that its brand of humor is still there.

The presentation in and of itself is absolutely stunning. Youll be in the Ghostbusters lair in between missions and you can interact with a lot of stuff like the arcade machine, slide down the poll, listen to messages on the phone and mess around with the jumping toaster. All this is well catered to fans and it looks absolutely marvelous.

Yet its the missions themselves that make you feel like a Ghostbuster. Youre an unnamed silent protagonist who is there mainly for the sake of testing out Egons new gear. Youll be happy to be strapped into the jumpsuit and given your own proton pack (and what self-respecting Ghostbusters fan wouldnt want the proton pack?). Even better, however, is when you can start going off and blasting ghost. You may think the whole thing might be repetitive, but its really not. There are a good variety of ghosts around, and many of the environments are destructible in and of themselves. When you shoot at a wall, the embers and marks remain for the duration of the mission. You could write your name in the floor if you wish. Most of the ghosts you meet can easily be blasted to bits, while others will need to be trapped in the ghost trap. Its a lot of fun and will keep you immersed. As you go on missions, youll also be accompanied by the original Ghostbusters and theyll continue with their banter throughout.

The only real urk about most missions may actually be the banter. Its fine and dandy, but sometimes the Ghostbusters will hold the mission up. If the writing werent so snappy and clever it might be a pain. Youll find that sometimes youll achieve the current objective while theyre still going on... and you have to listen to it all before you can move on. You cant skip it. At least most missions do go smoothly. Theyre fairly linear, so theres not much off the beaten path you can do.

Your proton pack is also quite versatile. Youll certainly be blasting a lot of ghosts, but there are other ways you can take down ghosts. You can use Boson Darts or a Shock Blast. Theres the Statis Stream which mostly slows down enemy advances. Theres also slime tethering. There are moments where the game will make you use most of these things. There are other types of weapons as well.

In spite of all you can do, Ghostbusters is not always an easy game. Its a fairly hard game most times, but at least you hardly feel like its beating you up. You wont find yourself frustrated, but from time to time you will find yourself challenged. The missions are varied enough and the environments are fantastic looking so youll find yourself immersed in the game.

If there was any major setback to the game, it would be that theres no local multiplayer for the main campaign. Its a solo job. That isnt to say theres no multiplayer at all. There is, and you can go online with friends and play in several multiplayer arenas. In one instance you are there to trap as many ghosts as you can in the given time. In another you have to survive while trapping ghosts. Theres also a multiplayer game where you all have to dunk slimer in the ghost trap as many times as possible. Theres even a multiplayer campaign that begs of you to destroy stuff! Most of this stuff is a lot of fun. Still, its a drag you cant run through the main story with a friend at your side.

There isnt much difference between the PS3 and 360 versions of the game. For the most part they look about the same. You may notice some differences, but if youre one who owns both consoles, no one version is really better than the other.

When all is said and done, Ghostbusters is a solid title. It fits in well with the canon and has top notch production values. Most important of all, its fun and easy to get into. Where as most games based off (or spun off) of movies tend to lack a lot of things, Ghostbusters succeeds where so few have succeeded (and many others fail). Its more than just simple fan service. Its an enticing adventure.
When a 20-Year Hiatus Strikes, Who Ya Gonna Call? Certainly Not He-Man.     On: 2009-06-16

Since I first heard news of a Ghostbusters game back in 2007 I was overjoyed as the lack of a third film left me sorely disappointed. Whether youre a child of the 1980s or a sci-fi comedy fan, the Ghostbusters franchise probably gave warm and fuzzy feelings inside you and a hole that needed to be filled. Problem was Ghostbuster co-writer Harald Ramis (played Egon and also co-wrote Animal House and Stripes) did not want to make a third film since almost 20 years had passed and he knew how badly such a time elapse faired for the fourth Indiana Jones film.

Enter Ghostbusters, the video game.

With CG graphics and voice acting, Ramis and Aykroyd were able to successfully create the third film albeit for the gaming console. Ghostbusters the Video Game ("GVG") is a virtual tribute to Ghostbusters fans as you feel as though you are in the film with all the themes that made the franchise as popular as it is.

Story

In GVG you are "Rookie," the new "experimental equipment technician" that gets to test out all the new tools and weapons just incase they malfunction (which, they dont) and the guy they send in to any situation if it is too serious for them to handle. In short, youre a red shirt. On your first day on the job you get a virtual baptism of fire with Slimer, Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and many other familiar and new ghosts along the way as you try to figure out why the recent outbreak of ghost activity is happening.

The story is intriguing as you actually investigate the paranormal events with your PKE meter (some sort of paranormal tricorder) all the while listening in to the guys coming up with hypothesis leading right up to the end twist, which actually surprised me. This kind of comedic sci-fi mystery is exactly what put Ghostbusters on the map and the tradition continues with GVG. While your character does not speak (nor is his real name specified beyond "Rookie"), this actually adds to the experience as you feel like youre part of the movie and youre just letting the main actors play their part with little to no interference from you.

The dialog is just plain hilarious. Aside from Sigourney Weaver and Rick Moranis, all original actors returned to reprise their roles including Annie Potts as Jeanine and even William Atherton as Walter Pecker. Between the bantering from the actual characters ("We eat gods for breakfast!!"), the ridiculous phone messages ("That Viggo painting is a priceless artifact - it belongs in a museum!!"), and the abstract sayings of the Viggo painting ("I sense a dark future, where music is free and available for download."), I had almost non-stop chuckling and some heavy laughter throughout. The moments of boring dialog were VERY few and far in between.

Game play

The game play uses a mixture of styles from mostly Dead Space and the last two Resident Evil games. Like Dead Space, you see your character in third person over their right shoulder with the health and weapon gauges on the proton pack as opposed to a standard heads-up display or basic overlay. This means the screen has more screen space for actual gaming rather than obtrusive numbers from a display or overlay. It also gives the player a more realistic experience. The game play takes some ideas from Resident Evil 5 with the inventory selection from the D-Pad as the proton pack has four weapon modes (standard photon blast, slime gun, etc.) although it is more similar to Republic Commando than RE5.

The controls are very basic and require little time to master from basic movement, dodging, and selecting between primary and secondary fire. The games movement is actually very well calibrated as I required no tweaking to the sensitivity, I just picked up the controller and went with it despite how much movement is required (which is a LOT).

GVGs game play is also surprisingly simplistic but without the boring repetition. You spend much of your time "zapping" a ghost with your weapons weakening them, and then you snare them into the "trap" and retrieve the trap. There are some monsters that can be destroyed but youll find yourself snaring a LOT of traps. This requires you to master wrangling ghosts with the snare secondary fire of the photon beam (which activates automatically thank God) as your controller will be moving back and forth trying to reel the ghoul in, like fishing.

When youre not zapping ghosts, youre following their trails with your PKE meter, scanning everything as you go. This means you focus in night-vision first person, which can mean that things will pop out at you and potentially startle whoever is playing.

One of the greatest things about the game play in GVG is the ally AI. For once, they are actually capable and helpful. Last night, on my second play through, I was at the Sedgwick Hotel and the guys actually reeled in two ghosts by themselves as I only provided cover. Not to mention the best part is that not only can you revive your team mates but they can revive YOU and do so in a timely fashion. This is unbelievable as your allies in GVG are more reliable than Delta Squad in Gears of War 2. Who woulda thunk it?

The only downside to game play, and its a big one, is that you cannot drive Ecto-1. You get to cause serious property damage, shoot people with your proton beam and not get into trouble, and even ride down the fire station pole, but when it comes to driving the only ambulance every child has wanted to take out for a spin, its a strict no-no. The main characters even taunt the player for not being able to drive in the last mission. Jerks.

The only other downside is that there is no new game plus. Once you beat the game, youre done. Like Fallout 3, this is just unacceptable as it diminishes replay value. I sincerely hope they will include downloadable missions and add-ons later on. You just cant leave the game like this!

Graphics and Music

The graphics are pretty well done. The facial expressions and movement is akin to Gears of War 2 as the textures are well done (but well be frowning upon them in six months when Assassins Creed 2 comes out). The lip-syncing is out of whack but it happens.

The environments are simply stunning... and fully destructible. You can blow up virtually everything. I had a blast (no pun intended) turning the Martinezs Bar Mitzvah buffet from a kosher delight to one charbroiled casserole with my proton pack (and subsequently got a gamer score for it). From the stores, the damage, the cemetery, its all done exceptionally well.

As for the music, its almost all from the original movies from the piano riffs to Ray Parker Jrs Ghostbusters. This gives the game a much more realistic feel to it, not to mention makes you feel like youre part of the film.

All in all, Ghostbusters gets a solid 90%. The controls were near flawless, the dialog was excellent, but the game couldve been longer (took me eight hours to beat on casual), lacks side quests and a new game plus option, and you cannot drive Ecto-1.

A worthy rental and purchase!!

This Is For All Ghostbusters Fans Everywhere!!     On: 2009-06-16

Finally, after years of being a fan and waiting for another possible movie, all I wanted was another Ghostbusters experience to bring me right back to my childhood.

And did they ever deliver!!!

This game is everything any fan has ever wanted out of the Ghostbusters franchise!!

In the beginning of the game, as you go through the tutorial, the moment you pull the trigger to use the proton pack for the first time, it sends shivers down your spine and you find yourself just running around shooting at inanimate objects because the thrill of actually using the proton pack is amazing!!

The game has a wonderful story line of you being the new rookie joining the Ghostbusters, and you get to be the guinea-pig to test out their newest upgrades and modifications to the proton pack.

There are many different locations in the game including: the Ghostbusters HQ (which you can explore!), the Sedgwick Hotel and Central Park to name a few.

The voice acting is dead on! You really get the sense that all the original actors really started feeling the Ghostbusters-vibe again, because their performances are magnificent! You really feel like you ARE the newest member of the Ghostbusters! Also, there is constant banter between all the member of the Ghostbusters throughout the missions, and it gives a great sense of realism throughout! Some of their banter is pretty funny too.

Gameplay is excellent. The control scheme is laid out well on the 360 controller, and movement is fluid and smooth. There where a couple of times that I got stuck on something really dumb, like a table, but I just busted out my proton blaster and blew it up to get it out of my way!

In closing, without giving away too much detail about the story, it does take places a couple years after the Ghostbusters 2 movie and continues the path of figuring out more about Gozer and Shandor.

Overall, a MUST have purchase for all Ghostbusters fans and hardcore gamers that have been dying for a Ghostbusters game since the NES and Genesis days.

Go out and buy it right now!!!
Great Game     On: 2009-06-16

I wasnt to sure about this game when I watched the preview, but it turned out to be a great game. I grew up watching Ghostbusters and for a few years really thought I would be one when I grew up. Long story short, that didnt happen, but Ive been having a good time running through New York capturing ghosts in the game.
good but not great     On: 2009-06-16

graphics are amazing, also all the original characters in it . yea i agree when u wear the goggles u cant shoot that kinda sucks. the story line is good this game is probably much better for younger kids. im use to shooters and ur jus capturing ghosts which is cool but its something i just gotta get use to. main story mode you probably woudlnt wanna replay. i still have to check on the online modes n see how they are xbox live is down today so ill check tommorow . so overall its a good game, fun, but not great. younger kids will find it amazing tho. the upgrading part is cool. im just happy to have a new game to play havent gotten nething i had interest in since resident evil 5 n that came out in march. im still debating after u play it tho if its worth holdin onto or not. ill have to try the online modes n find out. good game tho.
Finally a game to sit back, relax and have fun with     On: 2009-06-16

The game is actually pretty good, picked it up at my gamestore on Wednesday with Guitar Hero Smash Hits. You start off as a recruit with the original ghostbusters gang and doing the tutorial actually gives you an achievement.

The game is based in Manhattan, New York and you as the new recruit have to try and capture them. Its a basic go after the ghosts, trap them kinda game, with quite a bit of weapons involved that you will eventually have to upgrade. For those wanting to see the basement you will actually have a chance to go into the basement. There is quite a bit of cut scenes and its not as difficult as I thought it would have been. I was actually able to play online with a few others who also owns the game on the weekend and the online play is actually pretty good. The online play is done is waves and you try and catch the ghosts before the wave is over. For the achievement whores, there are also a few easy achievements to rack up also. The acting isnt all that great but you wont be thinking about the acting while trying to slam a ghost into a trap. My only regret is that its a 1 player game and only multiplayer online. So youd have to wait for turns or get another for those wanting to play in your household.

For those wondering how I was able to get the game early, my little "hole in the wall" gamestore usually have the games almost a week early and tend to sell them to their best customers. Apparently I wasnt the only one since I was able to play online with a few other gamers who got theirs early as well. My gamertag "Rare Angel Eyez" should verify my info. :-)
Could have been one of the greatest of all time     On: 2009-06-16

It is extremely satisfying to wield the proton pack. The graphics in this game are incredible, and it is a lot of fun, but there are a few things that should have been improved. My biggest problem with the game is that when you have the ghost-seeking goggles on, you cant shoot. So, you need the goggles to find the ghosts, but then when you finally do, you are utterly defenseless until you remove the goggles by pressing Y, afterwhich it is already too late and the ghost has knocked you down or escaped. The training was also horrible in this game, and I am still confused about the grapple beam, and when to use it. A lot of the time, it feels like you are doing absolutely no damage to the ghost, unless the other guys are aiming at the same ghost. There are also random prompts in the corner of the screen that have nothing to do with anything. You will be trapping a ghost, and it will randomly prompt you to put the goggles on or something else that makes no sense, like press select.
