2008-08-07The bottom lines is this game is fun! Not every game can be as exciting as "Halo"! This gives true fans of Marvel comics a chance to play as Iron Man. Yes the flight controls are lacking. However once you get the feel of how this games works it is a a blast.
I would tell anyone that this is worth the money and keep practicing, and before you know you will be truly having a blast! This game is completely underrated!

2008-07-21Iron Man starts off alittle dull but forgivable when you take the Mark I suit smashing through a war-torn desert village making Smores out of terrorists with your flame thrower. You soon learn the joys of shooting wrist missles at tanks, thugs, and helicopters. The funs getting started now right? The possibilities are promising.
Now we get to the second act with the mediocre looking Mark II suit and start to learn the joys of flight. Oh, if it was a joy. Hover, check! Accelerated flight, check! Clumsily navigating through the air like a drunken man shot from a catapult,...um, check! Good because Stark Industries is under attack by a unplausible army of tanks and goons.
We have a serious problem when game mechanics make me instictively have Iron Man fight on the ground.
So I smash through this invasion only to face off against the second levels apparent boss, a super helicopter that seems immune to everything (that is everything, after I quickly beat its life meter to 1/4). I mean, seriously, I threw everything at this stupid super helicopter: its own missiles, my missiles, my one-handed laser, my super laser blast with suit power diverted to weapons, hell I even tried punching, nothing worked! Long story short, after 10 straight minutes of it not killing me and me not harming it, I gave up hope of enjoying this game.
I died alittle inside and hit eject. No map, no clear objects, no easily crushing an enemy that a wandering duck could accidently take out, equals no fun for this reviewer. After the first boss was so lame and the second almost had me throw my controller, I just quit caring. Hopefully Iron Man the movie II will have a much better game or no game at all. Its shame the game plays so lousy because the red suit in flight looks really great in the ads and pics.

2008-07-05I found this game to be fun, even though it was a video game that coincided with a movie. I know it has gotten bad reviews from other sites and gaming magazines, but I have to disagree with them. The game does take some time getting used to the controls are a little advanced, but can be quickly mastered. The only thing I fell is missing from this game is a target lock. It is often difficult at first to target an object, but again you get used to this after the first 2-3 levels. The unlockable suits were fun to explore and the voice acting was great. The game itself is short (it is a movie game though) and will probably last you around 8 hours or more depending on difficulty and if you unlock the other suits.

2008-06-05I enjoy purchasing this game. I thought it was going to be another lame title to make money. But it was well worth it value. There are playable mission & you will be challenge on some mission. But if you like me, and re-think what you did wrong, they can be overcome. If you like shooting up & Thumb fighting game, this is for you. But beware that you might not finish it on the first time.. This will take time.

2008-05-31Although its nice to play as Ironman, this game is not worth $[...]. More like $[...]. The cut scenes are horrible. Some of the graphics are nice, the ironman suit is nice as well. After a day or two of playing this game, i regretted not getting GTA4 instead. I hope the new Hulk game isnt this bad:(

2008-05-21My eleven-year-old nephew finished this game in a couple hours, and no, hes not some video game prodigy. Its very clear to me that this game was an after thought to cash in on the timing of the movie. It doesnt have to be that way, though. My nephew has gotten hours upon hours of fun from his Spiderman video games. In this case, though, its obvious something was just slapped together with little development effort. What a waste of money, and more important, a HUGE disappointment to the kids who eagerly anticipated it.

2008-05-21I may be asking a lot out of this generation of games. Iron Man is the same song-and-dance. You have an anticipated blockbuster action film, and you have to develop the accompanying game for six different gaming consoles, including the PC, and turn out the final product in time for said films release. Already you can expect the games visuals to be lackluster, although Shellhead himself is surprisingly well-done.
The game lives by the "Lather, rinse, repeat" philosophy of many action games. Iron Man has an impressive number of moves, flight stunts, and weapons, but all you will ever have to do is hover over an enemy for a minute, hold down the right trigger, watch the beams destroy the enemy. This goes on for a few levels, and I will admit here that at some point I just gave up, so I have yet to even finish the game. Be ready to eat about one hundred enemy missiles. Congratulations if youve avoided one or caught one and threw it back at an enemy, but here come about 99 more. I had enough by that point. Iron Man is a shallow, empty product. A character with so many capabilities reduced to the lamest presentation ever and it makes me sad. I shouldnt be surprised. No one should, and yet I am. I wanted this game to be good, because I managed to enjoy the demo. I think I was better off crawling back to my copy of Transformers: The Game, or even King Kong. There isnt a whole lot to say because there isnt a whole lot to do with Iron Man. The only thing that makes this worth a look is unlocking Iron Mans past armored suits. You can more than likely find it for $10 by September.

2008-05-21This game follows the story of the movie, which like in most cases makes for a bad game. The graphics are good, and suit controls are easy to learn.
This game has several flaws in it,first of all you dont get the full suit functions or the option of first person mode. The only way you can grab an object is to fly into it or catch it in mid air. The extra suits dont make that much of a difference and are a pain to get.
The one up side to this game is the free flight mode.
Over all This is a rental.

2008-05-21This game might be boring for some, but in my personal case I am a huge fan of Ironman and also flight simulation/war games (like TFX, EF2000 and its sequels, US Navy Fighters, Red Baron... you get it if you know any of these titles).
I love it so far

the good-
big levels
good replay value
good powers
the bad-
sub par graphics(terrible at times)
bad sound quality on the battlefield
no lock on system
bad enemy ai
-(you can hide behind a rock and they seem to forget they even saw you)

they really get the feel of iron man down in this game, probably better than any other superhero game, besides of course Spiderman 1-3 and Incredible Hulk Ulitmate Destruction. you can hover, fly, use turbo thrusters for high-speed flight. you have various long range attacks from small lazers to the uni-beam. to those of you who arent familiar, its a huge beam that shoots from the circle on his chest, usually obliterating all in its path. you can also take great advantage of Iron Mans strength, ripping helicopters and tanks in half. you can also upgrade and customize all abilities.
the controls couldve been a little more solid, but theyre far beyond those of Superman the game, which is really the only base for comparison. there are very few games out there utilizing such an epic powerset. Marvel Ultimate Alliance(as amazing as it is) doesnt really count, its more of a dungeon crawler. a lock on system wouldve made combat a lot more headache-free. especially against the fighter jets.
in the end, its the only game that truly makes you feel like Iron Man. its honestly epic in every way, there were just a few bad design choices and a rushed release, which would explain the poor enviromental graphics(iron man himself looks good)
so any fan of Iron Man, or super heros in general should deffinitely try it. DEFFINITELY RENT before buying. just dont set your hopes too high.

2008-05-07There hasnt been a game in quite some time that I thought was terrible, pretty much across the board, but Iron Man managed to hit it.
From terribly repetitive levels with re-spawning enemies, to it unnatural flight controls and a bad targeting system; Iron Man manages to fail at damn-near everything it tries to do. This is the best-example of every criticism of a "movie game" Ive ever seen.
Sure, each level in the Iron Man world is huge and gives a good impression of NOT being in a fish-bowl like some other games do. At the same time however, the graphics to that world are flat-out disgusting. In my opinion, for what is supposed to be a next-gen game, Iron Man may be the worst-looking yet.
The ability to upgrade your armor is a nice new spin, but, unfortunately, just cant overcome the fact that everything else is going so completely wrong. Even the voice acting is lousy. Robert Downey Jr and Terrance Howard reprise their film roles and you can almost hear the indifference (or distain) in their voices. Its almost as if they realize how bad this is and want to get out as fast as possible.
To summarize ... the movie is absolutely terrific and gets my highest praise and recommendation. Take whatever you would have spent on the game and go see the film again. For the REALLY curious the demo is availible for free on both xBox Live and The Playstation Network. Dont let this waste ruin the experience for you ...

2008-05-06The demo of IronMan was quite entertaining and fun. It didnt take long to get the hang of the flying controlls and the action was implemented quite well. The graphics were not the most impressive I have seen but the demo got me excited enough to buy the game. The opening sequence of the game where Stark builds his first nonflyable suit was good, but after that it went into a "training sequence" to aquaint you with flying and your "super powers" and everything was going so so till I was to grab hold of drones and shown a red button, well I did it but it kept doing the same thing over and over and over and over and over. Basically this has taken a lot of oomph out the game and made me wonder if Sega used playtesters or beta testers to critique repeitive parts like this. I had hopes that IronMan would be the exception to movie tie in games and I think I was wrong. So if you want to avoid frustation you may want to rent it before plunking down the full monty. If the game experience was at least as good as the demo it might have been a different story for me. I dont like to pay to be frustrated

2008-05-06This game has been getting a lot of flak lately. Some of it is deserved (the environmental graphics do leave a little to desire, especially since Iron man himself is so well rendered) but there is fun to be had here. To be sure, there are times when the game gets frustrating because its so hard (I played through the first time on medium difficulty) but as time goes by you realize you have to use your brain in a lot of levels and not just try to blast through them. This involves a lot of dodging and ducking and hiding between objects and choosing your shots. Once you master this the game gets much easier. I suggest using the easy mode if youre looking for a more casual experience.
Ive completed the whole game and really have to say its fun in a fairly mindless way. Sure, the missions do become a bit repetitive in that youre usually going to point A to blow something up and then point B to blow up something else, but the locales are varied. And the actual act of flying around and blowing stuff up in various ways is very fun. In a way, its not that different from a game like Katamari, where youre basically performing the same task in different places. In this way, it harkens back to some of the more old-school games and is probably best appreciated this way, as the story is somewhat negligible.
The ability to unlock suits is fun, however be warned - if you go through a second run of the game be sure to unlock any suits you didnt get to the first time before restarting! If you dont, all the suits in the One Man Army games go back to their original, unmodified versions and it makes it much harder. I learned this the hard way.
This will never win any awards, but it can be vicarious fun.

2008-05-06Whenever theres a big budget movie on the horizon, especially one adapted from a comic book, you can almost always bet on a video game tie-in being somewhere in the distance as well. Well, heres Iron Man, and yes, it is nothing else but another lame cash-in attempt that fails to do its comic and movie counterparts any kind of justice. Playing as ol shellhead, you take down wave after wave of baddies, with an occasional boss battle thrown in now and then for good measure. Naturally, what kills Iron Man is the fact that the game as a whole is a tedious bore. You have objectives, you take down the bad guys, etc, etc. The whole game is just so repetitive that it pretty much kills anything good about it. Combine this with some frustrating controls and disappointing graphics (and some just plain awful cut-scenes), and you get what we have here. There are some good points to be found, including the fact that the moments of flying around are pretty okay, and film stars Robert Downey Jr. and Terrance Howard provide their own voices as well. All in all, whether you are a fan of the comic or the film, the Iron Man video game may be worth a look, but in the end, the game is best left on the shelf.

2008-05-05A lot of people will read my review and think that I am nuts, but I really enjoy playing this game. I didnt like it much at first but once I began to play more it quickly began to grow on me. Yes, I already am a fan of Iron Man and the movie was awesome so that probably has a lot to do with my reasonings for liking this game. It is obvious, however that they rushed this game out to coordinate with the movie. When I started to play this game I went into it already knowing that this would not be the next Halo 3 or GTA IV. I kept my expectations in check and I am not disapointed.
