More Information

it's bad and cant stand to play it (uninstalled).     On: 2010-07-09

its not fun, its dreary, its full of demon voices, the voice taunts are weak willed and painfully bad. all the opposite of previous games. overall its high technology and lifeless. a game that is simple and cool would wipe the floor with this easily. even old nintendo games were way better. ut99 completely embarrasses ut3 in every possible area. i suppose if you worship satan maybe ut3 is attractive,.. not sure where the demon theme came from but uh.. if there were nice things to say, i would say them. this is an honest opinion and do hate this game, uninstalled long ago and thrown out too actually. dont hype something up and have loads of phony reviews, including television and media in general with people who know absolutely nothing about gaming. unreal, unreal tournament goty, and ut2k4 were all awesome games, how can you screw that up and come out with this. its quite insulting, .. we did pay for it ya know. they have the resources, theyve had good games in the past, sorry but, no excuses there.. install it, 7gb of horrible content, how is that even possible. if they couldnt tell the difference that would be one thing, but they clearly can. you see some good reviews for ut3, yet the servers were always empty... like... empty empty. a coincidence? no, it isnt. very few people like this game, in common gaming its known as absolutely terrible. the rating for this game is way off anywhere ive seen it on the net and not an honest representation of the content. wanting to make money and wanting to support latest engine technology was the effort, none of it has to do with making a good game. why did you sell this to us, that was really lame.
Unraveled and Reruined     On: 2010-06-24

Unreal Tournament 2004 was a game with the most insane AI and replay value, even in single. If I had to keep only 1 game for a computer for the rest of my life I guess I would have to pick UT2004 because of majesty of that game and its overall development.

Atari built it, as usual, made an awesome and fun game. When the first expansion came out Midway took it over. The new charachter skins were cool, some dopey neat stuff here and there, the patches were good, nothing got F-d up. The new vehicles were awesome too that they added. Little did we know it was all experimental precoursers to the biggest pile of flaming sh*& ever.

Graphics do not make a game, the radical price drop over time when Unreal 3 hit the shelves 10 years after its anouncment or something is a perfect example. The game play is trash, there is NO tournament element, the same teammates you get are boring and undynamic like teh gameplay itself. The dodging and the majority of awesome physics (and AI) were removed, its obvious. I was beating Unreal 3 so easily it was ridiculous. Whats the difference from hoping in 1 vehicle or the next or having different teammates that are always the same and act the same anyway? This game was like a bastardization of Unreal2004. Midway took it over... it became Mortal Kombat with recycled and watered down guns. The guns were all the same, my favorite, teh Biorifle, was a RIFLE. That shoots green sh#$. It was not the same UNIQUE and dynamic weapon like in Ataris Unreal 4. Its like EA taking over C&C franchises, play the funeral dirge. 1 company is always about making awesome games, revolutionary stuff, like Raven and id. Another that eventually buys it is about extracting money from people, period. Then thats all a game becomes, and thats what this was. WHAT A WASTE OF MONEY. This game was like taking every ride out of Disney Land except the Teacups, then knocking the speed and the whirly-ness down to be slower, but painting them to look cooler and more fun. Ive never even been to Disney Land but it seemed like an appropriate analogy. REMEMBER IN THE 90s WHEN GAMES WERE FUN?
Unreal Tournament 3     On: 2010-06-11

This game looks great, however, the phrase "looks arent everything" rings like a sad song for this game. It is a fun game in small doses, but certainly not worth even $20, let alone the $60 they ask for usually. They simply focused on looks. The game is good, if you ONLY LIKE TO KILL IN ARENAS AND THAT IS ALL, no imagination, no fear, nothing like the Unreal 1/Gold survival horror games. This game is even worse than the other Unreal games. I fell in love with Unreal and Unreal Gold, but I also loved Unreal Tournament 1 for PS2. This game does not compare with that even.

It is fun, but I have so many complaints with the total lack of imagination. The game says "Single Player campaign is back" as if it were going back to the old Unreal days where you could have the survival horror genre single campaign where you had tried to escape a foreign planet inhabited by humanoid, incredibly sophisticated and powerful lizard-like warrior monsters that would wreck you up quite badly with one mistake, plus have the Unreal Tournament feel online, as was in the original Unreal.

Nope. What they should have said was, "SAME STUPID GAME AS ALL THE OTHERS BUT WITH NEW GRAPHICS." They should put a big label on the game saying BUYER BEWARE, GAME DEVELOPERS HAVE NO ABILITY FOR CREATIVITY. Thats about it. Sad o say,t he graphics were not all that great, though most people still could not max out the graphics, a sign of a poor engine, although, the Unreal Engine is world renowned, it has seen better days.

I think this game is about to go extinct. Maybe they will reach out to their old fans before they die and make a new regular "Unreal" return to the hell planet of doomness and actually have fun this time around.
Well-made, great fun, no one seems to play it.     On: 2010-03-15

PROS: Great gameplay, awesome new vehicles compared to the prev. gen of UT.
CONS: No one plays it.
FINAL VERDICT: Dont buy unless its less than $15. All youll get is the single-player.

SUMMARY: Bought this game about a year ago, and gave up on it around then. The real key behind any of the UT series is multiplayer. For whatever reason, no one, and I mean no one seems to play this game. I played through the entire single player campaign and it was great, mind-thrashing fun. Then I fired up the multiplayer. I found tons of servers, but to my dismay, seemingly no players. Dont get me wrong, the servers were all partly full. Of bots. What a disappointment.
I like all the Unrea Tournament games!     On: 2010-03-10

This did not seems like a huge improvement over previous versions of UT. Just another version. The use of vehicles seems to be a good enhancement!

Good shooter game! Great fun if network up several friends!!
FAST & FURIOUS     On: 2010-03-02

this games a bit too fast paced, it gave me a headache, so i sold it. it could have been great if the mechanics were a bit slower/different.
Unreal Tourn. 3 Review.     On: 2010-01-12

I never played a 1st person shooter game before and I am glad to say I enjoy this game. It is alittle fast paced for a beginner, but it does not take away from the fun. The graphics are amazing, and the controls are easy to pick up and learn. I dont play online so I cannot offer anything in that area, but for just running around and shooting, its great.
Good game     On: 2009-12-26

Personally i think its amazing at first.. but it gets boring if you dont have anyone to play with.. the multiplayer though is great.. coop is very fun and exciting when youre splitscreening.
just a simple review     On: 2009-11-29

UT3 is a great time! i really enjoyed it a lot. The entire game is rethought out compared to the UT2004.
i was sad however that they didnt create any new weapons for this game. some were upgraded and all the looks changed but it would have been nice to get a new weapon for such an epic release.
they took out the ripper??!!! that was my fav headshot weapon!
the vehicles are very good though in the gameand the adaptation of new and old level designs was kinda fun to see as well.
i like the game. its really a good time. there are some things with menus that i would have made differently but that doesnt really effect gameplay at all.

Great game, Great proce     On: 2009-11-15

This is a great game! A favorite classic of mine just got better. The online play is fantastic allowing several people to play together with little to no lag. This game has been out for quite some time so you can get it now for an extreemly low price! Worth every penny (especially since you can buy this game with the spare change laying around your home). Origionally had this game for the PC but completely recomend it for the xbox 360!!!!!! Controls work great and game play is wonderful!
Action-packed, extremely underrated game     On: 2009-10-25

I thought this would be a decent game at best, although it was made by the creators of Gears of War, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the single-player is basically multiplayer with the addition of intelligent AI bots and optional friends online. The graphics are beautiful and crisp and the weapons are pretty great and none are useless ones that are just there so they can say over 10 weapons to choose from. At its cheap price of around $9 bucks its definitly worth it. So if you like team deathmatch and capture the flag choose this game, in comparison to gears of war, halo 3, call of duty modern warfare, there is no comparision, but its still worth the cheap price.
Another great Unreal installment.     On: 2009-09-19

I think this is a great game so far. Gets hard but part of what makes an unreal game fun.
A Treasure Trove of Fun     On: 2009-08-12

This game is purely awesome. The old school, fast paced first person shooter(FPS) is back, and even better than before. The new graphics are amazing, up to par with Gears of War(IMO). The gameplay is very fun, if you can get someone to play split-screen or system link with you it becomes addicting. I put the game in, my friend came over, and we were hooked within seconds. Our first session was over 11 hours. And we continued to play like that for a few months. The game is a blast, and I recommend it for anyone who loves the old school fast paced style of deathmatch and CTF. And the new team based modes that UT3 presents are fun too. Im buying this for my PC as soon as I get my new laptop!

Buy this game if you love fast paced FPS multiplayer games. When the going gets boring, add a mutator.
Another Unreal Tournaent..     On: 2009-02-08

Another installment of Unreal! Totally rad, right!? Well kinda. The game was pretty good, but the single player story line mode got stale rather quickly. I like the idea of there being a story line if you want something a little more that just straight deathmatch. This seemed like a good idea in theory, but in practice it just wasnt doing it for me. It started out pretty good, but then quickly went into a very short rotation of ideas. There was a standard capture the flag mode, straight deathmatch and a mode where you must advance while maintaing control of previously captured zones. Unfortunately the single player story really was nothing more that a bunch of deathmatches against COM players all linked together. Overall the graphics looked pretty good, and you got to play around with some cool vehicles so that added some value. I wouldnt say this game is a buy, but throw it on your Gamefly Q and frag the hell out of your friends over a weekend, then return it when it gets boring.
Bought as gift no complaints     On: 2009-02-04

My brother loves war games, and sooting as well. I,m not a big fan of those type of games, but I relly thought of baying one for my self.
Unreally Weak     On: 2009-01-22

First I should mention that Ive been a long time fan of the Unreal Tournament series, ever since its first appearance on the PC many years ago. I loved everything about it: the innovative weapons, the dual fire modes, the fast pace multiplayer, the beautiful level designs with futuristic backdrops, excellent sound effects and amazing BOTS, which seemed almost human at times.

Flash foreward several years to the present and Unreal Tournament III for the XBOX 360 has remained for the most part unchanged. But several modifications in visuals and sound effects and the lack of content (in comparison to other versions) make it a less than great experience.

First of all Epic Games, changed the sound effects for all of the weapons; they sound weaker and crappier. The firing mode for the mini-gun has been changed from rapid fire to burst fire for the secondary mode (which truly sucks). One of my old favorite weapons, called the "Ripper" never made a comeback (strike two). And level designs have taken a gritty dark turn, which looks similar in style to Gears of War (same developer), which I also didnt fancy. The environments are dingy and wartorn because of the alien invasion, which makes sense storywise but I found visually unapealing in comparison to the high tech looks of the original Unreal Tournaments.

And although the game mechanics are exactly the same as they have been for a long time, it bothers me that Epic Games did nothing to add to the series. If it doesnt feel original or special then how is it going to stand up against the over-crowed FPS market that make the TOP TEN? The answer: it does not impress anyone and it remains an average game. You still cant crouch, the mutators are the same and your character doesnt have any new abilities of any kind. On top of that, half of the maps and game modes were cut out of the 360 version (which other versions contain)!

Unreal Tournament is just an average game. At the full retail price you are getting ripped off, but if you find it at the bargain bin, then it might be worth checking out.

PROS:
+amazing BOTS
+excellent graphics
+fast paced action
+good multiplayer options

CONS:
-campaign sucks
-crappy story
-weak sound effects
-level designs
-less maps
-less game modes
-no new abilities
-feels out dated
Fast paced action     On: 2009-01-20

I was gonna pass on this one since Gears 2 is already out and I did not want to drop 40 on this game. I found it discounted to 20 and picked it up. I have to say, it is quite a fun game. Some of the game modes are a bit on the annoying side, but it is a fast paced game and quite different from anything else on the 360 right now. It reminds me of counter strike in terms of game modes. The single player game is nothing more than the game teaching you how to play the game. The real meat is online, so check it out if you are interested in fast paced deathmatch type games.
Gonna frag like it's 1999     On: 2009-01-02

Back in 1999, there were three things the PC gaming world cared about: Y2K, Quake III: Arena, and Unreal Tournament. Quake was all about colorful, super-fast-twitch death. Unreal Tournament was fast as well, but had more game modes, including an absolutely bar-setting Capture the Flag mode and a unique Domination mode.

Well, id Software has long since fallen off the charts (Quake4 put too much emphasis on its mediocre campaign, and Doom3 was nothing more than a giant technology demo for an engine that demanded more than it performed), but Epic has kept the Unreal franchise alive, and after some mis-steps with its sequels, is back for more with Unreal Tournament III.

Available for the first time on the new generation of consoles, UT3 goes for its roots and a less is more approach and jettisons most of the crazy crap that cluttered its predecessors (FPS hand to hand combat?!). Even from the main menu, its clear the game is trying to go old-school, with the original UTs music. Maps like Facing Worlds (a UT CTF classic) are back, and everything from the games background score to the announcer bellowing "HEADSHOT" will give anyone who played the original serious deja vu in the best of senses.

But ironically, they dont go back far enough. Vehicles are present on some maps, but they feel like a weak stab at Halo3. The games iconic weapons are all present, but the art direction is too heavily insired by newer games like Halo and Gears of War. UT always had sleek, futuristic and spartan environments with gorgeous lighting; these environments feel too lush by comparison. And finally, that amazing Assault map, where one team would defend a beach while the other tried to storm up it into the base (seriously, think a futuristic D-Day) is nowhere to be found.

UT3 does, however, offer a fast, frag-style gameplay thats not really seen anymore, especially on the Xbox360, where Call of Duty and Halo rule. Additionally, while Microsoft nixed the games map and game mode editors sadly, the game does come packed with some 50 different maps (50!), and the caliber of the map design overall is outstanding. While the fast-twitch nature is better suited to the keyboard and mouse, the controls are good, and the UNREAL engine looks especially fantastic, seriously toasting both Halo3 and Quake4 visually.

Its old-school, but if youre old enough to remember when old-school was new-school, youll get a kick out of it.
Unreal Tournament 3 delivers on its promise of fast, and fun, multiplayer action     On: 2008-10-27

Unreal Tournament has always been about fast paced FPS action. This version delivers on that experience and provides a different flavor than other online shooters on the 360. The graphics and sound are both exceptional and every aspect of the game seems well examined and well executed. For better or worse, UT3 does one thing and does it well. Its all about multiplayer.

The core of this multiplayer game is well built. There are a lot of stages built into the disc and theyre all impressive. UT3 uses a heath pack system where you can pick up health and armor, it doesnt recharge automatically. This might be surprising to someone new to the franchise but it works really well in the game. The guns, spread out over the stages, are all very unique and fun. Even if your opponent is using a rocket launcher when you spawn it doesnt leave you without any options. In that regard, the gameplay is well balanced. There is also vehicle combat in the game and the vehicles are just as interesting. I personally liked the Darkwalker a lot, but there are many to choose from.

There are a few different modes of play in this game. There is of course the standard deathmatch and team deathmatch. A variation on deathmatch, called dual mode, is made specifically for 2 people to fight one on one. There is also capture the flag and vehicle capture the flag. The final mode is called warfare and has both teams fighting for control of different connected points until one team is forced back to their own base and eventually destroyed.

If you are looking for a single player experience that game does throw you a bone. There is a campaign mode, which sets you through a series of missions until you reach a final boss that you fight in a duel. The campaign is really just bot matches in the same modes you could play in an instant action or online. The game tries to explain things like respawning and why youre trying to capture the enemies flag so often in the story, but the story doesnt matter. You can also earn cards in the campaign which can change the settings of the matches a little more in your favor. That adds a little but not a lot.

One plus to the console version is the split screen co-op play. You can play through the campaign or online with one additional person on your console. It would have been nice to have up to four, but two is still more than the PC version allows.

I really enjoyed UT3 and I think anyone who enjoys multiplayer FPS games will find a lot of enjoyment too. The only drawback to the game is that despite its attempts at the campaign its still all multiplayer. The game is quick to get into and has a high replay value. For those that think they would enjoy it, this game is definitely worth picking up.
This game is a blast!     On: 2008-10-03

This game in my opinion is one of the best shooters out there. I really like the taunts that your character can say to keep the action going. I also love the team deathmatch which you can play with other players on your team to try and defeat the other team online. Go out and buy this game, you wont be disappointed.
Unreal is a blast!     On: 2008-09-26

This game is very enjoyable. Fragging online is a blast, and a classic Unreal experience. The graphics are absolutely gorgeous.

A few problems however: One, the single player is something to be desired. But in games like Quake or Unreal, we all know that we arent looking for a phenomenal single player experience. But another problem i consistently experience is occasional extreme lag when playing online.

These problems cause me to give this game a 4 out of 5, but to anyone who is a fan of playing online, i strongly recommend this game.
Very Cool     On: 2008-09-11

It seems that most people Ive talked too are/were very familiar with all of the old computer versions of Unreal. But my review is for the Xbox 360, which, like many of us, had never played any version up until buying this one for the 360.

This game will have you hooked. It is super fun, and the gameplay on plasmas and lcd screens is amazing. There are LOTS of things to do, including the main campaign, and random fun instant action levels.

NOTE: The best part about this game is that the initial campaign is basically just a training mode to get you online (great idea!). The game is designed for online play. So, by just going through the campaign and having fun, you are now ready to hook up Xbox live and youll fit right in.

The 1up.com review of a "C" grade is absurd, and Ive read it. If only because every reviewer is comparing it to all the other releases dating back years and years. As a new player to this great xbox 360 game, I was very impressed.

IMO, this beats Halo 3 in a heartbeat. Why? Because there are, among others, two specific mutators (which modify the game play) that you can turn on together. One is Speed Freak, and the other in Low Gravity. Now, imagine this. Playing the fastest Xbox 360 character ever made, and then being able to jump the equivalent of about 300 feet in the air while looking down at flying machines, tanks, other aliens and firing your crazy alien gun at everything! THAT is what I call fun. I put Halo 3 away, and simply love hosting matches with these mutators on.

This is by far one of the years most underrated games, without a doubt. The maps that you can play are beautiful. Theres something for everybody here, trust me.

Kids LOVE it! (Forget the M rating, its ridiculous, and based on a few bad words ONLY in the campaign) And older dads will love this too. Plus, the best part is that there are no Halo 3 GODS for the most part. Meaning that when you join Halo 3 online, you usually get clobbered. With Unreal Tournament 3, Ive met some of the nicer people online, and there is plenty of space for the average gamer to grow his/her talent, including the BOTS that you can set up in "Novice" mode to help you along.

This is a GREAT game, and I only wish the gamer magazines wouldve reviewed this with fresh eyes specifically for the Xbox 360.
Fairly Fun Game, but over the top story     On: 2008-09-09

Unclear if people really get this much into the story/culture of UT. The basic game hasnt really changed in the many versions of UT (which if you havent played before has several games: capture the flag, deathmatch, blow up the other guys reactors in a team based environment).

The primary problem that I have (maybe its because Im in my 40s) is that I dont care about the back story... It adds nothing to the game, and provides nothing about each level that helps me win or even appreciate the environment (Im sure this battle with the Necris has a fascinating political base, but WTF, its a shooter!?). Im sure that there are people who are looking for more than a team based shooter with frenetic action, but really... The action is fun and frenetic, and the comments are amusing from the announcer. (I personally enjoy the title of "Flak Master" the most).

The guns havent really changed since the earlier versions. There are some new vehicles, the nastiest is the "dark walker". The other vehicles arent really game-changers.

The most confusing of the game modes is the node-core game, where there are nodes that you "link" (i.e. capture) together to connect to the enemy core reactor. When you own all the nodes inline, you can strike the enemy core. Certain nodes also give your team extra benefits (like the ability to get tanks...) Most of the time this is pretty clear what to do, occasionally not.

In some of the capture the flag levels, the levels themselves are huge and confusing, and it is easy to get lost. In the node games, there are directions to point you to the node you need to attack.

As far as age appropriateness, my 8 year old has no problem playing, and enjoys it. He also gets annoyed by all the back-story chatter during the cut scenes. The violence is cartoonish, and amuses him.
Exactly what I wanted!     On: 2008-09-01

Unreal Tournament 3 is exactly what I was looking for when I ordered it. Fast, furious action that is best played with 15 other victims (ur...online players). Everything looks and sounds good and I have yet to experience killer lag when playing on dedicated servers.
For Unreal fans, a nice addition for your console time-but if you want a hardcore campaign, I would suggest waiting for Gears Of War 2.Gears of War 2 Amazon.com Exclusive Lancer
Unreal Tourney III, just like the other UTs     On: 2008-08-13

Fisrt off, I am an old school gamer, PC mostly. I played UT online via PC when it first came out in 1999 and the Dooms and Quakes before that. Ive played them all since then but only the PC versions. Ive since become an xbox fan. I was bummend when they originally planned to only make this for PS3 but stoked when they changed there mind and brought it to 360.
The Game
It is so much fun to play. The graphics are great and game play is fast and furious. For thos who have never played any Unreal Tournament, think of it as a "Gears of War" version of online "Halo 3". Because basically, Bunji stole the whole online gameplay from the original UT. It is all about "run n, gun". For those who have played the 2003 and 2004 versions, only a little has changed. They added vehicles and only a couple of maps, they used some of the old maps in this game. A little disappointing for those of us that were looking for more. (I guess they were too busy twith Gears of War II)
Its still a great game! Have fun with it!!
:0)     On: 2008-08-11

the game was ok FOR ME but i really do have fun playing the online .
Great game, classic Unreal Tournament action     On: 2008-08-10

This is a great game upholding the Unreal Tournament franchise in fun and intense action. I give it 5 stars for the fun-factor but have to give it an overall 3 stars for the lack of a party system and requirement to hold down a button to voice-chat (yes, I know about the unplug hack).
Unreal Tournament still thrills in UT3!!!     On: 2008-08-09

Unreal Tournament is an online multiplayer shooter that serves up over-the-top graphics with non-stop action. There are two types of players in a UT game -- the quick and the dead. UT delivers hardcore, old-school gameplay and delivers it with speed and spectacle. And yes, with blood and gore too.

The newest iteration, Unreal Tournament 3, offers the same polished shooter action renowned in the early titles along with a slew of new vehicles. Two stand out as something truly fresh to gamers: the Axon Leviathan, a huge mobile battle wagon with turrets for multiple players to inhabit and the Necris Darkwalker -- perhaps the eeriest vehicle ever. The Darkwalker looks like a tri-legged walker from War of the Worlds frighteningly re-imagined by H.R. Giger. If it sees you, run; its heat ray will burn you down to bones almost instantly. Of course, the game gives you opportunities to climb aboard this evil machine and do some of your own terrifying....

As stated in other reviews, UT3 is an evolutionary, not revolutionary, step past earlier efforts. And believe it or not, thats really for the best. While much of the gameplay isnt particularly fresh, it doesnt need to be. Gameplay this fast and furious, this gorgeous and polished, doesnt get old quick. If you have played earlier versions, itll be like riding a bike again after a long time away -- second-nature but still exhilarating!

There are a few hiccups in the frame rates, yes, but nothing to get upset about. UT is one of those games where I will complain about a momentary graphics glitch like somebody hit my mother but if I had to give the game up, it would have to be pried from my cold, dead hands. People grumble that the PS3 version lets you make and play mods and the 360 version doesnt. This is quite true sadly, but the 360 does have exclusive extras and a superior online experience in Xbox Live.

My biggest complaint about UT3: all the hours of sleep Im missing playing this game! This game is like virtual crack in that it gets me addicted to my own adrenaline. When I do finally get to sleep, my dreams are invaded by mental images of me still playing this game. Kinda scary, but kinda cool too. Gives you an idea of how intense and how gloriously infuriating this game is.

If youre new to UT, I suggest you play what passes as the single-player campaign as your training or you will be pwned when you take the fight online. There is a bit of a learning curve here for the casual gamer, but this game rewards you with a tremendous depth of experience for a "twitch" shooter. Whats great about this game is that when you die, you can immediately get back into the action (except in "Duel" mode) and try again. No waiting to get back in and certainly not for 12 or so seconds like in Halo when you accidentally "suicide."

Unreal Tournament 3 is a must-own game for Xbox 360 shooter fans.

(Bonus: Also check out Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict. Its a backward-compatible original-Xbox game that offers first-person shooter gameplay married to third-person melee action. Its a cool twist on UT that takes some time to master but will make you feel like a Jedi Knight when youve gotten it down. This still works online. And did I mention theres fatalities? The game can be found used for $5 and is a steal at that price!)
Best Unreal game yet.     On: 2008-08-08

If your a fan of the Unreal series, or just a fan of fast shooters, this game is for you. Its got great graphics, a fun, albeit short on story, campaign mode. But this series is really all about multiplayer, and this one is no different. Its fast and fun, little to no lag usually. A great multiplayer game, with a fun singleplayer. Whats not to like?
A great shooter, multiplayer or otherwise     On: 2008-08-06

This game will be undoubtedly compared to Halo 3 as they are both sci-fi first person shooters with a heavy multiplayer focus.
First off, there is no Halo-style single player campaign in this game -- just a series of bot matches intermeshed with some storyline and cinematics. That is not to say that I didnt play, enjoy and beat the campaign. The single player experience is very fun even when only playing with bots, and a blast in 2-player multiplayer. The gameplay modes are fine-tuned favorites from the previous Unreal Tournament iterations, which I found more enjoyable than the fairly unimaginative multiplayer modes in Halo 3. There are a few problems with the online multiplayer, however, which include some lag and a lack of a rank and experience system found in Halo 3. It is for these reasons I do not think the online component will be as popular as Halo, but in my book, the modes and maps (maps are thankfully designed around the MODES, as opposed to the other way around as in Halo 3) are much more enjoyable than the best ones Halo 3 had to offer. So if youre into faster-paced, quick-fix sort of shooters that are a lot of fun to play by yourself or with a friend, then I recommend UT3. But try both this and Halo 3, as each are good for different reasons.
Fun Game, Better than expected!!     On: 2008-08-01

A 4-5 stars rating is what games deserves. This game is more fun than the PC versions. The Graphics & Gameplay is what stand out in this game. Vechicle CTF is a lot of fun and creative. The gameplay is lightning fast. If you like fast-pace FPS, you will be pleased with this game. Epic changed the graphics to look more like GoW. The Sound is little lacking.
So far, this is my favorite Xbox 360 game.
Better than your average shooter     On: 2008-07-21

Unreal Tournament has always been a franchise to look out for... The graphics, the weapons, the multiplayer modes and even the music is always pretty top notch. This is no exception for the newest entry, which actually came out for the PC in 2007. Despite a late arrival for the 360 I can honestly say the wait was worth it. There are dozens of characters to play as and the xbox live play is fun and addicting. The campaign mode is surprisingly good and its a definate plus to players who like a story to go along with their games.
Fast, Frantic, and Fun     On: 2008-07-16

Unreal Tournament III has finally come to the 360 about a half a year later then the PS3 and PC version.

Was the wait worth it? Its a double edged sword really. The game obtains a few new maps, at the cost of the lack of modding the other carriers had. Wait I thought modding was bad, and looked down upon! In some instances it truly is, but UT3s modding enabled much customization and freedom to making maps. Thus heavily expanding the replay ability, and showing users creativity as a community. Even with this removed, the game still holds up quite nice actually. With a variety of (Single/multiplayer) maps easily surpassing any other 360 game to date, UT3 definitely holds high replay potential regardless of modding or not.

Keep in mind while UT3 does hold a single player campaign mode, it isnt a true blue single player experience. As the game is strongly aimed at the multiplayer department, which is actually a good thing. Many can get together on a variety of maps and game types, ranging from Deathmatch (free for all), Team Death Match, Capture The Flag (CTF & a vehicular variant of it), and a warfare mode! The vehicles are a nice touch, featuring varieties for a multitude of purposes. The vehicles vary per team, adding greater battles, as teams must find alternative ways to defeat one another.

The game holds a rather large roster of characters and classes to choose from. While you may only choose your character and not truly develop them any further, as previously mentioned the vastness of characters surely make up for it. Characters customization or not the guns go above and beyond, emphasizing diversity.

The balance overall is fair, as opposed to many other games where one weapon or object over powers the user/game and ruins the experience. Some games release updates/patches as a remedy to this, but this game is in no need of any such cure. While some may note the rocket launcher
as a site of reasonable complaint, its a freakin explosive! In all reality though, its manageable upon getting over the relatively low learning curve one can cope with these timid missiles.

The only exploits in the learning curve is getting use to the speed, many veterans of UT games should be fairly use to this (With the exception of not using a PC mouse/keyboard set up). Other similarly fast titles are the Quake, Doom, and Time Splitters series. Look at that they are all available on the Xbox, if you are use to that welcome UT3 and its smooth controls. Some guns are easier for some than others (like that wasnt a given), but the sniper is rather hard for new comers to use. Again due to the speed some may get agitated, or for that matter not even drawn into the amazing experience this game offers. Give it some time, dont miss out!

If you blow at this game, you can at least enjoy the graphics. Similar to an updated Gears of War graphically, it comes as no surprise as they were both made by Epic and share the same engine the Unreal Engine 3. Some note this as a Gears knock off. In all honesty besides aesthetics the two titles contrast so strongly from one another, it is like comparing apples and oranges.

All guns enable a special left trigger use, instead of standard firing they come with an additional ability (obviously right trigger is to fire ones weapon). The sniper being special in the case that its left trigger is solely reserved for zooming in, with the scope. Their are a myriad of weapons at ones disposal here. Pistols, bio/toxic guns, snipers, lazers, assault rifles, flac cannons, miniguns, anti vehicle guns, small nuke like guns, and the powerful melee only Impact Hammer. Definitely enough tools for some destruction and some sprees of mayhem.

So now you have all the information you need to choose whether or not to purchase this title. A somewhat durable learning curve, variety of characters, maps, guns, vehicles, and a highly saturated multiplayer experience. No modding allowed, AI bot based somewhat weak single player, and no character customization deeper than choosing a skin. Top notch graphics, and some cool sounds make for great audio and visual stimulation. Strongly recommend renting this title, if one has not played a similarly fast First Person Shooter (FPS). IF you have played and enjoyed fast paced FPSs, welcome to the holy grail of them...do enjoy. UT3 is a strong title in the ever growing mass populated shooter (specifically FPS) genre, expect many to play online for ages.
Twitch Gaming Returns!     On: 2008-07-14

Ahhh! Finally a 360 game that measures up to the original PC version of Unreal Tournament. Its lightening fast, gorgeous, and like greating an old friend.

All the UT favorite weapons are here, the nuclear redeemer, sniper rifle, shock rifle, flak cannon, and bio gun. Sadly the only one thats missing is The Ripper, which used to shoot saw blades and had an alternate fire option that would let you bounce them off walls and around corners. As in the PC version the Redeemer can be fired guided or unguided, and you bet you can use the alt fire on a shock rifle to launch a ball of plasma that you can then shoot to cause an explosion.

The game includes many multiplayer maps to choose from including an updated version of the classic Deck 16! You can play these via system link or on Xbox Live. Maps are beautiful in HD and play like greased lightening on Live. No more tactical sorts of slow moving action of rechargeable shields. Its a welcome return to old school twitch gaming previously only seen on the PC. You need to earn your armor and fight for health packs to stay alive. Theres many game types to have hours and hours of fun with including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, CTF and a couple of new variations like "Warfare" and a one on one "Duel" mode.

The interface for multipayer hosting is very much like the original Unreal Tournament where you can make a subset of the list of maps and arrange them in any order youd like to play them in and the game will automatically queue them up. The manual also mentions being able to add "Mutators" to the game, like the original, though Ive not played with that option yet.

UT3 also includes a single player campaign that can be played either as a single player or in a co-op format with friends. For the most part the campaign mode is designed as a collection of the different multiplayer game formats and more like a tutorial on how to play the different game types simulating online play with bots. Its fun but its not where the real action in UT3 is, which is online multiplayer playing against real thinking people. You will, however, learn about many of the new game types and features like the numerous new vehicles that are available. There are flying craft, tanks, and even war of the worlds style tripod walkers.

Graphically the game has a similar look to Gears of War, but is much cleaner and sharper. Depth of picture on a 1080i HDTV is amazing. Ive played on Live with my settings all set to max and encountered no issues with frame rates or slowing. Like the original PC version it runs like greased lightening but also looks amazing.

If youre into old school, high action, fast paced, online multiplayer fragfests THIS is the game for you. If youre into slower paced duck and cover strategy gameplay this probably wont be for you. Fans of the original Unreal Tournament will enjoy it.

Single Players Beware!     On: 2008-07-12

GAMEPLAY: Presumably okay for multi-player addicts.
GRAPHICS: Average, flat grounds and environments; nothing to write home about.
SOUND: Again, average -- nothing that we havent heard before.

I bought this game because the trailers looked fantastic, and the self-proclaimed best single-player ever.

DONT BE FOOLED!

This is a multi-player game only! I had to spend sixty-dollars to learn this! If you like multi-players, then this is your average run-of-the-mill multi-player. However, if you are like me and, really only enjoy playing single-player, consider yourself warned, the single-player campaign consists of mulit-player maps with AI competing against you. No bosses, no breath-taking missions, just capture the flag against AI.

Ive never been so disappointed...Oh wait, then theres Alone in the Dark...
Lightning Fast Gameplay & Stunning Visuals     On: 2008-07-10

UT3 is probably the fastest FPS on the consoles at this time. With lightning fast gameplay and stunning visuals. I only noticed minor texture pop ins and the occasional framerate dips but really Im being nitpicky here, UT3 looks and plays fantastic, near perfection for its style of gameplay. If you ever played UT2004 or Timesplitters, you get the idea ,only amp up the speed 10 fold.

With the addition of 5 New Maps for the 360 version, 3 of which are wholly new and 2 are reinvisioned versions of the PS3/PC version with Necris themes. All of the maps look quite good and some are fantastic looking.

Ive noticed that they improved the 360s version , by tweaking the core controls with a minor aim assist , I noticed that the bullets track a little better and behave more realisticly. I dont prefer aim assist myself ,BUT , I will say the 360 version is the most refined version yet ,aside from the HUGE GAP ,of not supporting user created mods, it is the most polished port.

The split-screen is fun,if your into that, UT3 360 supports split-screen online multi,co-op,local,and System Link. (no split-screen ranked though)

All DLC thats available for the PS3 is included in the 360 version (ASIDE FROM USER created mods)

(If your still into UT style gameplay)
The multiplayer is very fun with the usual Deathmatches, capture the flag to the more strategic WARFARE mode ,invloving capture the nodes, etc.

UT3 is so fast,so frenetic , youll barely have time to come up for air .
I was playing UT3 for about 7 hours and didnt even realize it, theres definitely no down times in UT3.

The single player campaign ,is little more than glorified BOT matches, but thats not such a bad thing as the enemy AI are really about as close as you can get to real humans, (sometimes better) especially on the harder settings.
There isnt much of a story in the campaign, but thats ok I dont wanna watch a bunch of mini-movies anyways. But It wouldve been nice to have a deeper in-game story mode, instead you get the occasional little cutscenes in between matches. AT least you have access to all online matches offline as well. Some of the MAPS are absolutley stunning as you progress into the game, these maps by far look superior to just about any game on the 360. There were quite a few jaw dropping moments in the maps. When EPIC said in there early interviews with various magazines that UT3 makes Gears look ugly , They werent kidding. But the comparison ends there, dont expect a Gears style cover system. UT3 is pure unadulterated lightning fast gameplay. I cant get over how fast this game performs. Other games like Gears,RSV, move at snails pace compared to this game, its insanely fast. You know some games slow down your player to help the graphics perform better, BUT UT3 , turns the dial past 11 and it still looks smooth as butter.

Switching weapons are mapped to the RB and LB respectively and of course all have some form of alternate fire (LT),
at first I wouldve preferred a quicker layout of weapon toggle, BUT , the controls are really easy for any 360 FPS veteran ,you shouldnt have any problems jumping right in and playing.
The vehicles all drive and perform closely to Halos Warthog ,there quite easy and intuitive as well ,with a little learning curve ,thats a perfect time to check out the campaigns offline BOT matches to hone up your skills for online.Especially sharpening your skills for capturing nodes and learning the best routes in the maps.Theres also tons of unique flying vehicles .

UT3 is a fantastic game on the 360 ,with the only real downside to the 360 version is the lack of user created mods and the lack of a real story in the campaign , BUT THERE IS TONS of game content offline with the BOTS.

Ive seen from interviews from EPIC you can expect some solution for user created mods most likely in the form of DLC ? who knows? . But the 360 is so meaty ,so full of game content it really is an exciting game and the lack of user created mods shouldnt detour you from picking up a copy for yourself. If your looking for a deep single player story campaign and dont have LIVE access I would suggest renting it first, as theres no real deep story here ,BUT , even offline the BOT matches can be fun. Theres just no match though for human counterparts online,UT3 true shining feature is the Multi-player and its one of the best looking ,best performing games on the 360 to date, if not THE BEST.

Overall UT3 is much better than I had expected. EPIC really knows what there doing when it comes to Unreal Tournament style gameplay and they tweaked the 360 to its maxium limits and to my surprise ,the game is exceptionally smooth, clean, and fast paced with out so much as a hiccup or a very rare framedrop on the 360. Definitley pick this game up a very, very solid FPS.

PEACE

The Necris war of the worlds inspired three legged walkers are a sight to behold, quite stunning visually and control quite fluidly.

Pretty sweet... Worth the wait.     On: 2008-07-09

Ill admit I was waiting for the Xbox 360 verson because all my friends have Live. Of course, this game is optimal on PC, but it is still pretty darn awesome on Xbox.

Ive been a big Unreal fan since the first game, and this one doesnt disappoint. As the previous reviewer said, the graphics are stunning in 1080p and I have noticed no texture pop-in or frame rate hiccups in the single player campaign. Online, Ive found a few games that lag a bit, but the great thing is that Epic hosts dedicated servers for this game. Those dont lag at all, and thats just friggin sweet.

I adjusted the turn sensitivity all the way up and this game is smokin fast. The action is nonstop and plays out at a breakneck pace online. This is the fastest FPS youll ever play on a console and the whole thing runs without a single hiccup. Epic did an awesome job optimizing this for 360.

The controls are almost flawless. The only things I dont like are that (1) you have to hold the D-pad right to voice chat. Thats a pain when the pace is so fast, and (2) you can only cycle weapons forward (using RB). The LB brings up a radial menu that you can select weapons from, but again, with the pace as fast as it is, this will get you fragged over and over again. Youll just be mashing the RB as you cycle through weapons. Lets just hope that you dont miss that Flak cannon because if you do, youll be cycling through them all again.

Online is the way to play, as the single player campaign is dry and little more than a series of tutorials. The warfare mode is totally awesome online. This is the mode to play. Also Vehicle Capture the Flag is freakin sweet too. Team deathmatch is my favorite. Matches go to 300 kills and when youve got 16 people fragging each other on a small map the action is literally non-stop.

Sucks that theres no Modding or User Generated Content, but Im sure there will be DLC on the marketplace. Epic even said they might develop and release the most popular maps that users have generated. Im not holding my breath for that, but Im sure there will be at least some DLC, and there are alread tons of maps to play.

Final words: Buy it, and meet me online.
Hats off to EPIC     On: 2008-07-09

Recieved this yeasterday and spent 6 straight hours playing it.I have the pC version and have been a UT fan for years but I just enjoy XBOX/360 more and im more comfortable with controler. The graphics in this version are absolutely stunning in 1080P glory and excellnt 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. In multiplay I was given a choice of join a match or hosting. All the maps are here plus 5 exclusive to 360.No modding capabilities but who cares? Some do but I dont. The online multiplay was smooth and lag free.Buy this with no regrets.9 out of 10.
