The Demo Review
Back during E3 when everyone was showing off their new stuff, I thought to myself, "Wow, the basketball market may actually be close this year." EA was throwing all of this new and shiny stuff at us, while 2K Sports was keeping rather quiet about things. As time progressed, NBA Live 07 heard some pretty bad stuff from IGN, that the game is too buggy, and they would need all the time they had to finish it, while NBA 2K7 heard only praises. At 2PM PST, 5AM EST time, an NBA 2K7 demo was released. This would mark my second night in a row for NBA 2K7 and at that time I had currently been awake for 40+ hours, only with a one hour nap in there. Is it the real deal?

The graphics, as always are beautiful. I know I'm taking about a game that features 10 sweaty men playing with balls, but I swear I mean that in a heterosexual way. The players look just like their real-life counterpart. Shaq looks like Shaq, DWade looks like DWade, Dirk like Dirk, and The Jet like the Jet. The stadium offered in the demo also looks wonderful with the crowd getting excited when their team scores. If subs are made on the fly, the players will actually walk over to the check in table and wait for a pause in the game. Just the attention to detail is amazing. Each player also now has signature moves, dunks, and shots. I honestly didn't know how legit this was going to be, but even bench players are down pat.

The gameplay, as always has been solid. 2K Sports never fails to disappoint in this area. I'm not going to tap this area much; I'm going to save it for the final review on September 25th.

The controls were set on a configuration I don't normally play with. However, I did find it easy to pick it up and play with it anyway.

Multiplayer was left out in the demo, but I assure you, I will cover it very in-depth for the final review.

I would like to say this before I got any further. You, yes you, the guy who just let Yao wait under the basket so your guy could feed him the ball. It was fun, losing to you every single game, but your time is up my friend because that is no longer going to happen. 2K has bumped up the AI and difficulty making cheesing, virtually impossible, which is great for us sim fans, if you suck at the game, well, then don't buy it. Driving the lane is a rare occurrence too, making each dunk sweeter.

The announcers were really well done. I don't recall hearing anything from NBA 2K6 so it all appears to be new dialogue, in the demo anyway. I will make one note, the song on the menu, not so crazy about.

Well there you have it, the demo review for NBA 2K7. Stay tuned for a review of the NBA Live 07 demo if it hits before launch, and stay tuned for my final reviews of NBA 2K7 and NBA Live 07 on September 25th.
